How to Avoid Annoying People (2013) by Ariel Nasser is a short hand-drawn animation that utilizes sarcasm and irony in exaggerated circumstances to criticize socially accepted behaviors such as self-centered small talk. Within a linear narrative structure punctuated by an infomercial announcer, this comical film reveals the over-the-top harassments endured by a plane traveller as he thwarts the constant verbal barrage from a fellow passenger.Written by
"How to Avoid Annoying People" is a funny animated short that takes advantage of it's absurd situation of sitting next to a person in airplane that won't shut up! Its also a hilarious take on a self help infomercials on TV ads. The use of illustrations reminds of Bill Plympton animated shorts, helping exaggerate characteristics of the characters. The character designs are very unique and matches the tone of the film perfectly. It has a great use of colors as well that make it look like it is water colored even though it was probably colored in Photoshop. it also has great sound design. Though it is limited in its animation, it has enough motion graphics to know what is going on in the story.
