Sympathy for the Devil: An Interview with John Carpenter (2013)
*** (out of 4)
Brief 10-minute interview with director John Carpenter has him discussing PRINCE OF DARKNESS, his 1987 film that didn't get too much attention when in theaters but gained a cult status on video. Carpenter starts off talking about his thoughts on religion and why he wanted to make a film like this. It's clear that he wanted to get away from the studio and do a project that he could have complete control over. He also talks about his various influences including Hammer films. From here he discusses a few more items but not too much about this particular film. This is a fairly short interview and I was a little surprised that he didn't talk more about the film in question. None of the cast members including Donald Pleasence and Alice Cooper are mentioned. There's no talk about getting the film released. What stories are told are certainly entertaining but there just seems to be several items that should have been discussed but weren't.
