When Elena and Katherine have the same dream that Stefan is in danger and desperately needs their help, they convince Damon to help them find Stefan. However, their plans are thwarted by a mysterious young woman named Tessa who seems to know everything about Stefan's history. In flashbacks to a distant time and place, Tessa reveals the shocking secrets in her past and what she has planned for the future. She also has a disturbing message for Damon about his own future. Silas forces an unwilling accomplice to help him search for Katherine, leading to a confusing and life-threatening situation for Matt. Finally, Silas reveals the reason he's determined to find Katherine, and Damon and Elena face a disturbing new reality.—CW Publicity

Recently untombed Stefan stumbles into a bar and up to the bartender. He chomps down on her neck, then tells her to run. Bloody and still starving, he stumbles out into the sunlight, and slowly starts to crisp.

Elena wakes up in a plush bed next to Damon and tells him about the very real dream she just had. He decides he's annoyed by her psychic connection to her ex. She describes what she saw, but doesn't know where it was. But Katherine does. She barges into their bedroom and tells them she had the exact same dream.

Damon looks into the bars, but doesn't find any named Joe's, like Elena saw. Elena isn't thrilled about Katherine coming with them, but Damon says if Silas wants her, they have to keep her safe.

Stilas calls Nadia the Traveler and questions whether she really killed Gregor. He tells her to find Matt, find out where Katherine is and kill Matt.

Stefan wakes up somewhere and warns the woman who's there to get away so he doesn't rip her throat out. She hands him a blood bag.

She saved him from the quarry and from outside the bar. She knows he's Silas's doppelganger. Stefan came very close to flipping his humanity switch, but knew he wanted to be himself when he killed Silas.

She explains that she knew Silas 2,000 years ago in Ancient Rome, when they were both members of the Travelers, and he was her one true love and they wanted to always be together. He fooled Qetsiyah into making him an immortality spell, but when she found out he was using her he put him in a tomb and dumped him there, hoping he would die and end up in a super natural limbo when he took it.

Then she explains she's Qetsiyah and Stefan's only heard the man's side of the story. She came back for Stefan.

In the car on the way to where ever Stefan is, Katherine tries to sow discontent between Damon and Elena.

Back at the Grill, Matt confronts Nadia. She tells him Silas still wants him dead and he'll have to trust her. She places her hands on his face and summons Gregor. She promises him she'll find a way to bring him back in Matt permanently, but they needed someone with the immortality ring. But first, "Matt" has to call Elena and find out where Katherine is.

Out in the wood cabin, Stefan wants a phone, but Qetsiyah tells him there's no cell reception and he's not safe outside without his daylight ring. She came through when Bonnie lowered the veil. She tells Stefan she's going by Tessa. She tells Stefan about her wedding to Silas and the immortality spell she created for it. Silas drank it without her. She found him in the wilderness with the woman he chose over her -- her handmaiden.

Flash back to Qetsiyah seeing Silas with Amara -- another Elena doppelganger.

When they took the immortality spell, it created shadow selves -- Stefan, Elena and Katherine. Qetsiyah says she's making him a new daylight ring, then she wants Stefan's help to take down Silas once and for all.

Damon pulls over to the bar that Elena saw in her dream. They go inside and the bartender tells them she was attacked, then the "sicko" told her to run. When she looked back, he was on fire. Then some woman shoved him in to a truck and drove away. She recognized the truck as belonging to a man with a cabin lives 10 miles down the road.

The bartender pours Damon a shot. He downs it, but it's vervane. Out strolls Nadia. She compelled the bartender to serve him.

Katherine runs in from the car and Nadia pulls a gun, but she doesn't know who to aim it at between Katherine and Elena. Elena tells Katherine to run. She and Damon take on Nadia, a "vampire bounty hunter."

Damon thinks she's Silas's spy. Elena tells Damon to find Silas while she goes after Katherine. He tells her to bail on Katherine at the slightest sign of trouble, she's not worth a hair on Elena's head.

Up at the cabin, Qetsiyah/Tessa tells Stefan about Silas's power.

Flash back to thousands of years ago. Qetsiyah prepares him a chalice from which they were to drink at their wedding and a cure for immortality. She just used it on someone else immortal. Stefan sees blood everywhere and then Qetsiyah reveals a heart she says belongs to Amara. She cripples Stefan with magic, telling him to take the cure so they can live long human lives together.

Qetsiyah created the other side then dropped Silas in a tomb, expecting him to take the cure to be with Amara, only to end up trapped with Qetsiyah instead for all eternity. Stefan realizes she's not making him a daylight ring. "I have trust issues. I'm controlling and paranoid, and a little crazy," she says. Stefan drops to his knees as she cripples him.

Elena finds Katherine in the woods. But as they're chatting, Nadia comes up and snaps Elena's neck.

Damon finds Stefan chained to a chair in the cabin. But Qetsiyah is still there. She's casting a spell to cripple Silas's mental powers. But she expected Katherine to be with Damon. Damon realizes she planted the dreams.

Nadia brings Katherine to her car and is surprised to find Silas waiting for her --thanks to GPS.

Qetsiyah works on her spell.

Meanwhile, back on the road, Silas uses his mind control to get Nadia to aim her gun at her own chest. He's telling her to pull the trigger when Qetsiyah's spell starts to take effect. Silas crumples to the ground and blood pours form his eyes -- and Stefan's.

Qetsiyah gives Damon the rundown on dopplegangers, that they're always fated to be together, which leaves him nowhere. Damon tries to make a deal with Qetsiyah, but he double crosses her and tries to choke her.

Damon wakes up to see Elena rushing in to see Stefan tied to the chair.

Nadia walks in on Katherine going through her things. Silas calls, asking where Nadia is and promising to kill her if she doesn't live up to the deal.

Silas realizes the fact he lost his abilities means Qetsiyah is alive -- and they both want the cure: Katherine's blood.

Elena calls Matt back. He doesn't remember talking to her. Then he sees his boots are covered with mud and he has an old dagger.

Back at the Salvatores', Elena slips Stefan's daylight ring back on his finger.

She asks Damon what Qetsiyah said. "She told me we don't stand a chance," Damon says, explaining that the universe programmed dopplegangers to fall in love with each other.

Damon is not inclined to let the universe or some prehistoric witch tell him how to live because "you are my life," Damon says, kissing Elena. Stefan wakes up on the couch.

"Stefan, we missed you," Elena says. "I'm sorry, I have no idea who you people are," Stefan says.
