Discount Wednesday: AMC Theatres to Dramatically Slash Movie Ticket Prices Beginning July 9
Image
For years, there’s been a spike in moviegoing on Tuesdays, when it can cost half as much to take a trip to thousands of cinemas across the country.

AMC Theatres — the country’s largest exhibitor — upped the ante in a major way on Monday when extending the discount to Wednesdays for members of AMC Stubs program, which is free to join (the loyalty program presently boasts 36 million subscribers).

Beginning July 9, 2025, Stubs members can buy a ticket for all releases at 50 percent off the normal adult-evening ticket price. The new policy will commence several days before James Gunn’s Superman flies into cinemas on July 11 and not long after July Fourth tentpole Jurassic World: Rebirth debuts on July 2.

While certain movies and holiday time periods may be excluded from the “50% Off Wednesdays” program, it is envisioned that if successful, this new AMC pricing initiative will be almost universally available at...

Superman: The Man Of Steel Takes To The Skies In Motion Poster Ahead Of This Wednesday's Trailer Debut
Image
Billboards across the world were lit up with news that the first full Superman trailer will be released this Wednesday, and the video has now been officially released online.

In this "motion poster" for the Dcu reboot, we see the familiar sight of Superman and Krypto together. However, this time, they're watching over Metropolis, and the teaser offers perhaps our best look yet at the fictional city's iconic skyline.

The Man of Tomorrow then takes flight before we get confirmation about the trailer landing on Wednesday.

So far, we've had a teaser trailer, a 5-minute preview, and a featurette for Superman. With that in mind, it will be interesting to see how much more of the story this full trailer reveals, not to mention the type of epic visuals comic book readers are hoping to see on screen.

Superman has a fight on its hands this summer against Jurassic World Rebirth,...

How To Watch The Jurassic Park Movies In Order
Image
Michael Crichton's novel "Jurassic Park" actually began its life as a 1983 screenplay about a graduate student that accidentally recreated a pterosaur in a lab. Crichton put it down, however, when he noticed the overwhelming volume of dinosaur media in the world. He picked it back up again when he realized that no one will ever get tired of dinosaurs and eventually turned his screenplay into his successful 1990 novel.

The rest is history. Steven Spielberg adapted "Jurassic Park" to film in 1993, and it became one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. In the ensuing 32 years, Spielberg's film gave rise to six "Jurassic Park" sequels, two animated TV shows, two live-action shorts, and a merchandise empire that is only outstripped by those of Marvel and the "Star Wars" franchise.

The canonical, live-action entries in the "Jurassic Park" property are as follows:

"Jurassic Park" (1993) "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" (1997) "Jurassic Park III...

DC makes the Superman announcement we've been waiting for
Image
There are a lot of movies to look forward to in 2025, and July might just have the most exciting offerings of them all. Yes, the summer month will bring us Jurassic World Rebirth and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, as well as I Know What You Did Last Summer. Perhaps the most intriguing release, however, is Superman - the movie that will relaunch the DC Universe.

Directed by James Gunn, the nostalgic tale stars David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. It also looks to serve as the first (live-action) chapter in the new Dcu franchise, bringing the world's most famous superhero back to the big screen in the process.

Excitement is at an all-time high for Superman but Warner Bros. and DC Studios are looking to push it to an even higher level this week.

A new Superman...

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ – New Images Spotlight the ‘Jaws’-Inspired Trio of Brand New Characters
Image
We’re now less than two months away from the return of the Jurassic World franchise, with this summer’s Jurassic World Rebirth aiming to take the franchise in a new direction. The new movie is taking a page out of the playbooks of both Jaws and the original Jurassic Park rather than more recent Jurassic World movies, with all new characters taking center stage.

Entertainment Weekly introduces this new cast of characters, led by Scarlett Johansson’s Zora Bennett, in an exclusive preview piece featuring four brand new images from the movie.

Johansson’s Zora is joined by Mahershala Ali’s Duncan and Jonathan Bailey’s Dr. Loomis, with the trio being compared to iconic trio Brody, Quint and Hooper from Jaws.

Entertainment Weekly previews, “The version of Jurassic World Rebirth that exists now — even as [director] Gareth Edwards still has a ways to go to finalize the edit — is closer in spirit to Jaws.

Scarlett Johansson requested to play 'sparkly' character in Jurassic World Rebirth
Scarlett Johansson wanted her 'Jurassic World Rebirth' character to be "a little bit sparkly".The 40-year-old star leads the cast of the new movie in the dinosaur franchise and was keen for her covert operations expert Zora Bennett to possess the sense of "warmth" that she has seen in others in similar fields.Scarlett told Empire magazine: "I've met with many members of the armed forces and worked with the Uso (United Services Organizations), and the people I've met who are at the highest level of security clearance all really share a certain kind of sense of humour, a warmth. So I wanted Zora to have that."The 'Black Widow' star explained that her alter ego is world-weary before the events of 'Jurassic World Rebirth', which is released in cinemas in July and centres on a crack team's attempts to create a life-saving drug.

Weekend Update Slams ‘Woke’ Pope Accusations, Jokes About Trump’s Film Tariffs and Summer Movie Season
Image
The world has taken an interest in Chicago-born Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost’s American upbringing, and so did anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che during the “Saturday Night Live” Weekend Update segment on May 10.

“I also love that conservatives are already complaining that this pope is too woke. How woke can a 69-year-old man from Chicago be? It’s not like he came out and was like, ‘Hey, I’m Pope Leo the 14th, he/him,'” Jost joked.

After bringing up the AI-generated image of President Donald Trump dressed as the leader of the Catholic Church, Che joked: “I just find it hard to believe that anyone in the Catholic Church would be into something so juvenile,” which led the crowd to erupt. Even Jost was left speechless for a moment before continuing.

Che discussed Trump’s plans to place a 100% tariff on movies made outside the U.S.

Scarlett Johansson & Miles Teller join Adam Driver in James Gray’s Paper Tiger
Scarlett Johansson
According to Deadline, Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller have joined the cast of Paper Tiger, the upcoming drama from Ad Astra director James Gray. As they try to navigate their way through an ever-more dangerous world of corruption and violence, they find themselves and their family brutally terrorized by the Russian ‘Mafiya.’ Their bond begins to fray, and betrayal—once utterly unthinkable—now becomes all too possible.“

Gray is writing and directing the project, with production expected to kick off next month in New Jersey.

Image
Paper Tiger, the new film from writer-director James Gray, has just revealed two major casting announcements. Per Deadline, Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow)and Miles Teller (Top Gun: Maverick)have been added to the movie’s lineup that already includes Adam Driver (Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens).

Johansson has been rumored to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, though she has personally denied these claims. Even so, her new co-stars have connections to Marvel. Teller is also known in part for playing Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four reboot released in 2015. Driver was also rumored to be up for the McU's Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps before Pedro Pascal's casting.

Johansson and Teller are replacing Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong, who were originally cast in Paper Tiger but had to drop out of the movie because of other commitments. The new film comes from Gray, who...

Krypto and David Corenswet Have a Heart-to-Heart in New 'Superman' Image
Image
One of the most anticipated superhero movies of the year just got a thrilling new look. ScreenRant has officially released a new image from Superman, the debut Dcu film from writer/director James Gunn that’s due in theaters on July 11. The new image shows David Corenswet’s Man of Steel standing in the Fortress of Solitude with Krypto and one of the robots who inhabit the fortress and help care for Superman. In the film’s timeline, this image likely comes not long after the recently released sneak peek that played ahead of A Minecraft Movie, which saw Superman return to the Fortress of Solitude to heal. Not that we had any reason to be worried about the Kryptonian hero, but he seems to be feeling much better in the newly-released image.

Collider debuted its own exclusive look at Superman during the Exclusive Movie Preview Event, which also included...

Jurassic World Rebirth director Gareth Edwards and producer Frank Marshall address the franchise's future. The seventh installment in the larger Jurassic Parksaga, the upcoming movie stars Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, the leader of a mission into Earth's dangerous equatorial regions to recover dinosaur DNA for a medical breakthrough. The Jurassic World Rebirth story picks up the action five years after Jurassic World Dominion (2022), introducing new characters played by Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, and Rupert Friend, among others.

During a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Evans and Marshall share their thoughts on the Jurassic World franchise's future, revealing that nothing is set in stone just yet. Marshall is asked whether a new installment would feature another all-new cast or if Johansson, Bailey, and Ali could return, and he teases that both options are on the table:

“We’re keeping both of those ideas in play, let’s say it that way.

AMC CEO Adam Aron Dismisses Early 2025 Box Office Slump as Anomaly, Points to Sharp Recovery
Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, and Naomi Ackie in Mickey 17 (2025)
AMC Entertainment’s first-quarter financial results for 2025 reflect a difficult period for theatrical exhibition, as revenues declined and net losses widened. Despite the numbers, CEO Adam Aron maintained that the performance should not be interpreted as a reflection of waning audience interest in moviegoing, arguing instead that the sluggish box office in the first three months of the year was an isolated event already being corrected by a much stronger second quarter.

The company reported a net loss of $202.1 million for the January through March period, an increase from a $163.5 million loss during the same quarter a year earlier. Revenue fell to $862.5 million, down from $951.4 million in Q1 2024, marking a 9% year-over-year decline. Admissions revenue dropped 11% to $473.5 million, and concessions fell nearly 12% to $283.4 million.

AMC’s earnings per share came in at a loss of 58 cents, a figure in line with analyst forecasts of 59 cents, according to data from FactSet. Shares...

Scarlett Johansson: It Would Have Been ‘Easier’ to Finance a ‘Subpar’ Genre Film Than Indie ‘Eleanor the Great’
Image
Scarlett Johansson didn’t have a great time finding financing for her feature directorial debut “Eleanor the Great.” The indie drama, which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section, stars June Squibb as a grieving 94-year-old who relocates from Florida to New York City, where she befriends a young journalism student (Erin Kellyman). MCU alum and “Jurassic World: Rebirth” star Johansson told THR that the film took “forever to get made” in part because indies are so difficult to fund.

“It would be easier to make something that was the sequel of a $180 million movie or a genre movie that was subpar,” Johansson said. “To get much, much, much less money for an independent film with an original story that has a lead actor who was 94 was very, very, very challenging.”

Johansson added that there was a “humongous scramble” to even film in New York.

AMC Entertainment CEO Calls Q1 Box Office “A Distorting Reality That Has Already Corrected Itself” As Revenue Dips, Losses Widen
Image
AMC Entertainment saw revenue slip and net losses widen last quarter on the now well-known story of an oddly soft three months for moviegoing. But CEO Adam Aron insisted that “Anyone trying to draw any conclusions about the success or appeal of movie theatres from the results of the first quarter of 2025 is likely to be mistaken, because the industrywide domestic box office in Q1 was in our view a distorting anomaly that has already corrected itself. We continue to believe that moviegoing demand for the balance of 2025 and all of 2026 will show great strength.”

The company saw a net loss of $202 million grow from $163 million in the year-earlier quarter on revenue ahead of Wall Street forecasts at $862 million, down from $951 million.

Eps was in line at negative 59 cents a share, an improvement with more shares outstanding.

“Setting aside those first quarters directly impacted by Covid and its aftermath, the...

The Phoenician Scheme Is ‘From The Same Well’ As The Royal Tenenbaums, Says Wes Anderson
Image
For all their abundant style, the films of Wes Anderson are always weighted with character depth. Take the detailed family drama of The Royal Tenenbaums, the wistful vitality of M Gustave in The Grand Budapest Hotel, or the youthful innocence of the young heroes in Moonrise Kingdom. For his latest film, The Phoenician Scheme, Anderson once again welcomes audiences into a world that no other filmmaker could create – but at the heart of it all is Benicio del Toro’s Zsa-zsa Korda, an eccentric businessman set to enter the pantheon of ‘Anderson Dads’.

Of course, chief in that category is Royal Tenenbaum, in The Royal Tenenbaums – a film with which The Phoenician Scheme shares certain thematic resonances. “It’s from the same well,” Anderson tells Empire, noting partial inspiration for Zsa-zsa from his own father-in-law, Fouad Malouf, to whom the film is dedicated. “There are many details from his life...

The Instagram Factor: Getting Movie Stars to Promote on Their Social Media Is in the Fine Print
Image
In the lead-up to the release of this summer’s “Jurassic World Rebirth,” Universal Pictures made a request.

They asked Scarlett Johansson, who plays a covert operative named Zora Bennett in the new sequel that opens in theaters July 2, if she would join social media. Johansson is one of the biggest movie stars who still doesn’t have a social media presence; this would be a huge win for the studio and the movie.

“I got an email from Universal, and they’re like, ‘Hey, would you consider joining Instagram in tandem with the release of Jurassic World Rebirth?'” Johansson said in an interview with InStyle. “ get a lot of pressure to join social media,” she added.

Johansson asked whether there was a way she “could do this and stay true to who I am,” ultimately deciding that “it didn’t feel like I could.” She’s one of

Why Scarlett Johansson Made Age an Issue With ‘Eleanor the Great’
Image
Scarlett Johansson was behind the camera last year on her feature directorial debut, Eleanor the Great, fixated on the performance of title star June Squibb when she had a vision.

“I said to [one of my producing partners, Jonathan Lia], ‘If I do my job well and do what I’m supposed to do, I can imagine June walking the Croisette at age 95, starring in this incredible dramatic role that she’s so amazing in’ and I thought that would be my dream,” the veteran A-lister, 40, explains of being selected for the Cannes Film Festival. “To have it actually become a reality is amazing. I’m still processing it.”

Johansson has just days to wrap her head around what will be a milestone May with two films in the Cannes lineup. In addition to the Un Certain Regard world premiere of Eleanor the Great, Johansson will walk the Palais steps for Wes Anderson’s competition...

‘Together’ (2025) Movie: Cast, Release Date, Plot, and All You Need to Know
Image
It’s starting to look like a great year if you are into horror movies; from Ryan Coogler’s classic Sinners, to the movie saga that traumatized a whole generation like Final Destination: Bloodline, set to release this year. One addition to the list of horror movies coming out this year is the Michael Shanks-directed movie Together.

Stepping aside from the usual jump scares and ghosts with horrifying faces, Together does something different. It takes a more supernatural approach with evil forces making physical changes to their bodies. Looking at the trailer, it might not seem like the loudest or the flashiest horror movie, but it sure seems like the most intriguing one.

The premise is thrilling for sure, but it’s the emotional storytelling and the sense of unease created through the setting’s atmosphere that you are strangely immersed in their eerie situations. It’s almost as...

How To Train Your Dragon’s Hiccup ‘Really Shaped Who I Was As A Kid’, Says Mason Thames
Image
For a generation of film lovers, How To Train Your Dragon was a franchise that grew alongside them in their youth. The animated trilogy, directed by Dean DeBlois (joined by Chris Sanders on the first film), began in 2010 and closed out with The Hidden World in 2019 – a period during which those who associated with young hero Hiccup also went from childhood to young adulthood. Now, DeBlois is adapting the films into live-action, set to bring a whole new generation of fans into the world of dragons, vikings, and the Isle Of Berk. And its new Hiccup, The Black Phone’s Mason Thames, was one of those whose adolescence unfolded alongside Dragon’s protagonist.

“It really shaped who I was as a kid, just like a lot of people who watched it growing up,” Thames tells Empire of the series. He wasn’t just a casual fan either. “I was Hiccup for Halloween,...

The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Herbie Is ‘As Alive As Any Other Member Of The Cast’
Image
You probably know the members of The Fantastic Four. There’s Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, the stretchy one. There’s Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, the invisible one. You have Joseph Quinn as her brother Johnny Storm, the fiery one. And Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, the… well, the thingy one. But you might not know their ‘Fifth Beatle’, so to speak. Make way for H.E.R.B.I.E., the Reed Richards-created adorable android, a companion and collaborator to the main four who’s about to make a big impact in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

“He’s absolutely as important and as alive as any other member of the cast,” director Matt Shakman enthuses to Empire about H.E.R.B.I.E. “He’s sometimes a slightly put-upon robot, but he is definitely a member of the family. He’s just so charming and adorable.

M3GAN 2.0 Promises ‘The Ultimate Mean-Girl Showdown’ Between M3GAN And Her Nemesis Amelia
Image
When it arrived at the start of 2023, M3GAN proved to be a very different kind of killer doll movie – one with a serious personality upgrade from your typical anonymous-murder-puppet fare. Because it turned out M3GAN herself was an instant movie star, slicing and twirling and dancing her way to immediate hit status. And that’s just the beginning. Here comes M3GAN 2.0, now with boosted hardware, a summer release date, and double the android trouble – a sequel from returning director Gerard Johnstone in which the murderous/mischievous (delete as applicable) machine meets her match in souped-up new villain Amelia (Ahsoka’s Ivanna Sakhno).

If the tagline (’This Bitch vs. That Bitch’) didn’t tip you off, this one’s dialling up the knowing fun. “It’s the ultimate mean-girl showdown,” Sakhno promises Empire, “while remaining a very campy, cunty movie.” With a capital ‘C’, we’d expect. Even Johnstone agrees to that description.

Marcus Theatres’ Q1 Loss Widens On Softer Than Expected Box Office Before ‘Minecraft’, ‘Sinners’ Turned Things Around
Image
Marcus Theatres, the nation’s no. 4 chain, saw losses in the March quarter grow to $6.3 million from $5.7 million on a softer box office and higher costs before A Minecraft Movie and Sinners reignited moviegoing in April.

Revenue rose 7.5% to $87.4 million due largely to four more operating days vs the prior year period.

The company cited higher film costs as a percentage of admissions revenues and higher labor expenses vs a strike-crippled Q1 2024.

Attendance rose 7% and average ticket prices fell 5% on the impact of pricing promotions like the $7 Everyday Matinee and Value Tuesday, and an “unfavorable ticket mix” with an increased number of family films. Captain America: Brave New World, Mufasa: The Lion King, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Dog Man and Moana 2 were the top performers.

Concession revenues per customer rose 2.9%.

“While the overall performance of the first quarter film slate was disappointing, the start to the second quarter has...

Cinema owner Mark O’Meara was watching the Oscars in his living room when Sean Baker, accepting the best director trophy for “Anora,” made an impassioned plea for global audiences to support their local multiplex.

Five years after Covid badly bruised the movie business, and two years after the strikes slowed the recovery, O’Meara needed no reminder that the industry remains seriously challenged — a fact that was illuminated during 2025’s glacial box office start. “It was an apprehensive couple of months,” he says.

This was weeks ago, in March, when theater attendance was flatlining and tentpoles like Disney’s “Snow White” and Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World” just weren’t inspiring enough trips to the movies. But April’s one-two punch of “A Minecraft Movie...

John Wick: Chapter 5 Will ‘Be Really Different’ With ‘A New Story’, Teases Chad Stahelski
Image
You can’t keep a guy like John Wick down. As many shady underworld figures have learned to their cost, Baba Yaga simply keeps coming back. Except, John Wick: Chapter 4 seemed to somewhat close the book on Keanu Reeves’ bullet-spraying assassin. In the fourquel’s final reel, Wick seemed to succumb to his injuries in Paris, with audiences shown his tombstone for good measure – though, technically, we didn’t actually see the character die. Now, we know he will indeed be back in the recently-announced Chapter 5. But according to director Chad Stahelski, there’ll be more to Wick’s return than meets the eye.

“The saga of John Wick was pretty wrapped up,” he admits to Empire. “So the only way to do a 5 is to have a new story that involves John Wick. It’s not a continuation, with the High Table. John dealt with his grief. It will be really different,...

Ironheart’s Dominique Thorne Got ‘Two Thumbs Up’ From Robert Downey Jr
Image
The MCU began with a suit of armour. 17 years ago, Robert Downey Jr suited up for the first time as Iron Man, cladding himself in a hotrod rocket suit and kicking off five phases of interconnected storytelling. Now, we’re about to see another character literally build themselves into a hero before our eyes: Riri Williams, aka Ironheart, the prodigious teen genius first introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, who puts her technological expertise into making her own Iron Man-inspired suit.

The resulting Ironheart series is set to evolve Dominique Thorne’s Williams from the excitable upstart we met in Wakanda Forever – and comes with the seal of approval from Tony Stark himself. “Robert Downey Jr and I spoke just after we wrapped, and he shared some very lovely words about my journey,” Thorne tells Empire. “He told me how excited he was and that he’s rooting for it,...

“I Don’t Think So”: ‘Thunderbolts*’ Co-Writer Pours Cold Water on Scarlett Johansson’s Potential Return to the MCU
Image
Thunderbolts* is now playing in theaters everywhere, and although it features a misfit band of not-so-superheroes from several MCU projects, it puts Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) in the spotlight more than anyone. Pugh first made her MCU debut in Black Widow, which also marked Scarlett Johansson's final outing after first making her debut in Iron Man 2 (2010). Although it’s been confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth will work with Marvel in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, and reported that Chris Evans is also attached to star, but there has been no word of Johansson’s involvement. During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Thunderbolts* writer Eric Pearson, who also wrote Black Widow, was asked if he thought there was any chance Johansson would be back. While he admitted he lacks intel on the subject, he also isn’t optimistic about her return, to say the...

Jurassic World Rebirth's Terrifying New Mutant Dinosaurs Teased By Director
Image
Jurassic World Rebirth director Gareth Edwards and screenwriter David Koepp tease the arrival of two new mutant dinosaurs in the upcoming film. Serving as a soft reboot for the franchise after Jurassic World Dominion (2022), the new installment stars Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, the leader of a mission into Earth's dino-heavy equatorial regions to recover valuable DNA for a medical breakthrough. As teased in Jurassic World Rebirth trailers, the film will introduce several new dinosaurs into the mix, including a monstrous beast that was bred in a lab.

In a recent interview with Empire, Edwards reveals that this new dinosaur is called the Distortus Rex, or the D-Rex. Though the creature is glimpsed only briefly in trailers, Edwards confirms that it features six limbs, lots of teeth, and is very hungry. Check out Edwards' comment about the D-Rex below:

“It’s kind of like if the T-Rex was designed by H.R. Giger,...

Jurassic World Still Holds A Very Unique Box Office Record
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

To say that the "Jurassic Park" and "Jurassic World" movies are popular would be a bit of an insulting understatement. Steven Spielberg's 1993 original, which is based on author Michael Crichton's novel of the same name, is one of the most important, beloved and successful blockbusters ever made. That led to a full trilogy of movies, which concluded in 2001 with "Jurassic Park III." Then, a full 14 years later, the series found new life in 2015 with director Colin Trevorrow's "Jurassic World."

Taking the world by storm, "Jurassic World" made an astonishing $1.67 billion at the global box office and still ranks as the tenth biggest movie of all-time worldwide. At the end of its original theatrical run, it was the third-biggest, albeit for a short while. That, in turn, led to a new trilogy with "Fallen Kingdom" arriving in 2018 and...

‘Thunderbolts*’ Flies to $162 Million Globally, ‘Sinners’ Nears $250 Million Milestone
Image
“Thunderbolts*” touched down at the global box office with $162 million, including $86.1 million from 52 international markets.

Those ticket sales are behind the previous Marvel adventure, February’s “Captain America: Brave New World” ($192 million), though reviews and audience scores for “Thunderbolts*” should help in terms of staying power. “Brave New World,” on the other hand, hobbled by terrible word-of-mouth, quickly collapsed at the box office.

Big screen endurance is important because Disney spent $180 million to make and another $100 million to market “Thunderbolts*,” which centers on a ragtag group of antiheroes including Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell’s John Walker and David Harbour’s Red Guardian.

“Thunderbolts*” also topped domestic box office charts with $76 million. Outside of the U.S. and Canada, top territories were China ($10.4 million), the United Kingdom ($7.7 million), Mexico ($7.3 million) and Brazil ($4 million).

Elsewhere at the international box office, “Sinners” added $10.4 million from 71 markets,...

“I was personally threatened”: MCU’s Blade Mahershala Ali Hated Basketball Because of the Toxic Habbit of His Team Management
Image
Mahershala Ali has easily become one of the most respected actors in the film industry. Having won two Academy Awards in the Best Supporting Actor category in the past decade, he scaled the Hollywood ladder with his talent. In addition to his indie and critically acclaimed achievements, he has also been cast in the role of Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Although the project has been stuck in developmental hell for quite some time now, fans could not be more excited about him playing the iconic character, regardless of how long it takes. While fans know a lot about his career in the film industry, they hardly know that the actor would have chosen a different career path at one point in his life.

Mahershala Ali was a star athlete

Long before he was winning Oscars and starring in critically acclaimed masterpieces, Mahershala Ali used to attend Saint Mary...

The upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth continues the franchise’s love affair with hybrid dinosaurs, introducing the world to the horrifying Distortus Rex (or D. Rex for short). This six-limbed monstrosity promises to make the T. Rex look like a friendly puppy in comparison.

With the franchise’s seventh installment hitting theaters soon, fans are already buzzing about what might be the most frightening dinosaur the series has ever produced. And trust me, from what we’ve seen in those brief teaser glimpses, you’re going to want to keep the lights on after watching this one.

Jurassic World Rebirth Writer And Director Tease "Bigger, Meaner, Scarier" Mutant Dinosaurs Like The D-Rex
Image
Jurassic World Rebirth promises to take the beloved franchise back to its roots with an island setting and plenty of fan-favourite dinosaurs. Among them are the Tyrannosaurus Rex, the Dilophosaurus, and the long-awaited return of Jurassic Park III's Spinosaurus.

However, filmmaker Gareth Edwards will also lean into the franchise's horror roots with mutant dinosaurs created on a third island by InGen's most twisted scientists.

Among them will be the Distortus Rex, or "D-Rex." Talking to Empire Online (via SFFGazette.com), Edwards teased, "It’s kind of like if the T-Rex was designed by H.R. Giger, and then that whole thing had sex with a Rancor."

"It’s a design that I was really happy with," the director said of the six-limbed creature. "I'd like to buy the toy of it when it comes out."

Ilm's David Vickery added, "Gareth wanted us to feel sorry for it as well as terrified,...

Jurassic World Rebirth will introduce viewers to Mutadons and the D-Rex

There’s a new entry in the Jurassic Park / Jurassic World franchise heading our way, with Jurassic World Rebirth set to reach theatres on July 2, 2025 – and when this one plays out on the big screen, it will be introducing viewers to creatures known as Mutadons and the D-Rex. Empire was able to dig up some details on these creatures, and you can read about them below.

News of the new Jurassic World movie first hit back in January of 2024, when it was revealed that the screenplay had already been written by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, returning to the franchise for the first time since The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The project was assembled in a mad scramble after that, with Godzilla and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards ending up at the helm. This new Jurassic World movie won’t be featuring any returning lead...

'Jurassic World Rebirth' Director Explains New Hybrid Dinosaur "D-Rex"
Image
Like the recent trilogy, Jurassic World Rebirth will keep up the tradition of introducing a brand-new dinosaur that rivals the classic T-Rex in scale. This time, audiences will be introduced to a truly monstrous creature that will be a trip to look at, and absolutely terrifying for those who embark on the journey to an abandoned research facility in Jurassic World Rebirth.

During an interview with Empire Magazine, Jurassic World Rebirth director Gareth Edwards discussed the introduction of the Distortus Rex, also known as the "D-Rex." Described as a dinosaur with six limbs and "teeth galore," the D-Rex is a mishmash of DNA and presumably failed experiments. The creature, which resembles a Rancor from the Star Wars franchise, was seen in the official trailer for the film. “It’s kind of like if the T-Rex was designed by H.R. Giger, and then that whole thing had sex with a Rancor,...

Gareth Edwards Reveals the Name of ‘Rebirth’s Chilling New Dinosaur
Image
Jurassic World Rebirth is coming to theaters on July 2, 2025. With a 134-minute confirmed runtime, Rebirth will feature a star-filled cast and a story that is supposedly set to take us back to the roots of the franchise.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, the movie is projected to be a solid hit based on the trailers, as many fans have praised the content shown there and believe that this movie will feel more like the original trilogy and Crichton’s book.

One of the novelties introduced to the trailer was a new, hybrid species of dinosaur, something taken from the pages of the books and something that wasn’t prominently featured in the previous movies. Now, Edwards decided to reveal more.

Jurassic World Rebirth's Monster Dinosaur Has Been Given a Name (& Skin-Crawling Origin)
Image
After being glimpsed in the trailers for Jurassic World Rebirth, director Gareth Edwards is ready to introduce the world to the franchise's newest hybrid dinosaur. So, step aside, Indominus rex, it's time to make way for the Distortus Rex, or the D-Rex for short.

While speaking with Empire about the new Jurassic, Edwards shared his slightly uncomfortable theory about how the Distortus Rex was created, suggesting that a T-Rex designed by biomechanical artist H.R. Giger "had sex with a Rancor," the large, reptilian creature from the Star Wars universe. The resulting hybrid dinosaur possesses six limbs, more teeth than one could count, and a ravenous appetite, the last of which will surely prove trouble for Scarlett Johannsson's Zora and her team. "It’s a design that I was really happy with," added Edwards. "I’d like to buy the toy of it when it comes out."

"A T-Rex Designed By Hr Giger”: 'Jurassic World Rebirth' Director Teases Controversial New "Dinosaur"
Image
There’s a new apex predator coming to the Jurassic franchise — and this one looks like it crawled out of a nightmare. In Jurassic World Rebirth, director Gareth Edwards isn’t just reviving the classic dino terror that fans know and love. He’s warping it. Twisting it. Mutating it. Say hello (or run away screaming) from the Distortus Rex — aka the D-Rex. Sounds a bit like a special way of watching a movie. "See it now, only in D-Rex". Anyway, we digress.

Set on a third, never-before-seen island where InGen’s darkest experiments took place — they really did love collecting islands like Infinity Stones — Rebirth follows a DNA recovery mission gone wrong. As Scarlett Johansson’s Zora Bennett, Jonathan Bailey’s paleontologist Henry Loomis, and Mahershala Ali’s Duncan Kincaid venture into this volatile territory, they encounter not just the likes of the returning T-Rex, Dilophosaurus, and Spinosaurus — but...

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ – The Franchise’s New Mutant Dinosaur Is Called the “Distortus Rex”
Chris Pratt in Jurassic World (2015)
The Jurassic World franchise has been messing with dino DNA to create some brand new hybrid nightmares in recent years, with Jurassic World unleashing the Indominus Rex and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom introducing the Indoraptor. This summer’s Jurassic World Rebirth will also feature a brand new dino terror the world has never seen before.

The official name of Rebirth‘s new dinosaur? Distortus Rex aka D-Rex.

Director Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Godzilla) tells Empire this week, “It’s kind of like if the T-Rex was designed by H.R. Giger, and then that whole thing had sex with a Rancor. It’s a design that I was really happy with. I’d like to buy the toy of it when it comes out.”

We’ve only gotten brief glimpses of the six-limbed D-Rex in the film’s teasers and trailers thus far, and we may...

Avatar: Fire And Ash Will See Neytiri ‘Question Everything’ In Her Grief – Exclusive First Image
Image
For the most part, Avatar: The Way Of Water was so titled for its focus on the oceans of Pandora – with Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their Na’vi children forced to flee the Rda and bed in with the aquamarine Metkayina clan. But the sequel could also have been named for the tears provoked by its final reel. The clash between Na’vi and man came with a major consequence: the death of Jake and Neytiri’s firstborn son, Neteyam, tragically cut down on the cusp of adulthood. It’s a loss that sent Neytiri into a fearsome rage against the Rda – and as we enter Avatar: Fire And Ash, that loss and “absolute devastation” is still fresh in the character’s mind, says star Zoe Saldaña.

“That pain is seamlessly followed up on,” she tells Empire in our latest Path To Pandora exclusive, running up to Fire And Ash’s arrival.

Meet The Distortus Rex: Jurassic World Rebirth’s Mutant Is ‘Like The T-Rex Designed By Hr Giger’
Image
When Jurassic World Rebirth hits the big screen, it’ll be packed with prehistoric favourites. Yes, the T-Rex is here. So is the Dilophosaurus. Even Jurassic Park III’s Spinosaurus is back on the scene. But the DNA-collecting expedition into dino-infested territory – led by Scarlett Johansson’s Zora Bennett, Jonathan Bailey’s Henry Loomis, and Mahershala Ali’s Duncan Kincaid – will bring fresh horrors too. Set not on Isla Nublar, nor Isla Sorna, but a third site where InGen’s most egregious genetic meddling went down, Rebirth will introduce all-new unholy oddities. Make way for Distortus Rex, or the ‘D-Rex’.

“It’s kind of like if the T-Rex was designed by H.R. Giger, and then that whole thing had sex with a Rancor,” director Gareth Edwards tells Empire of the mysterious beast, glimpsed in the trailers. With six limbs, teeth galore, and a ravenous appetite, you’ve never seen something...

'Jurassic World Rebirth' Stars Say the Film "Celebrates" Original 'Jurassic Park'
Image
The next installment in the Jurassic Worldfranchise, Jurassic World Rebirth, is set for release next Jul. 2, 2025. The hype is growing stronger every day, as this one really feels like the complete overhaul the franchise created by Steven Spielberg actually needed. It's not a secret that director Gareth Edwards is trying to honor the original movie, but now stars Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson have also confirmed that the sequel aims to "celebrate the original film." How exactly Jurassic World Rebirth will pay tribute to Jurassic Park remains to be seen, but consider us officially excited.

Bailey and Johansson, the two leads in the film who will play paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis and undercover soldier Zora Bennett, respectively, spoke to Empire Magazine about the movie, but didn't spoil major details about it. "There were really dangerous water snakes swimming past us. So, the fear and adrenaline was as real as it could be,...

Gareth Edwards doesn't 'feel guilty' about Jaws reference in Jurassic World Rebirth
Gareth Edwards doesn't "feel guilty" about a 'Jaws' reference in 'Jurassic World Rebirth' because it was approved by Steven Spielberg. The moviemaker has taken the helm of the dinosaur franchise for the seventh film which comes 32 years after Spielberg directed 'Jurassic Park' - based on the book of the same name by Michael Crichton - and the latest movie features a scene taken from the original book in which a dinosaur stalked a group of people on a raft from the water and Edwards admits it seems like a nod to Spielberg's shark classic 'Jaws'.He told Empire magazine: "You can’t put a fin in the water and have it be a threat to people on a boat without thinking of a particular film ['Jaws']."And I would feel really guilty about this, except for the fact that the screenplay was given to me by Steven Spielberg.

Jurassic World Rebirth (2025)
Jurassic World Rebirth will be a “love letter” to the original movie
Jurassic World Rebirth (2025)
Jurassic World Rebirth marks the seventh installment in the iconic Jurassic franchise, with the sequel once again aiming to recapture the awe and wonder that made Steven Spielberg’s original film a cinematic landmark over thirty years ago. Will they succeed? Time will tell.

Jonathan Bailey, who plays paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, told Empire that the upcoming sequel is a “love letter” to the original Jurassic Park. “It really does feel that it’s welcoming people to really celebrate the original film,” he said. “It has that wonder and awe, while not being scared to re-inject the thrill and the fear.” Scarlett Johansson agrees. “It hearkens back to the first one,” she said. “It has a lot of good jump-scares, and the stakes are high.“

While the Jurassic World trilogy explored what would happen if the dinosaurs entered our world, Rebirth wants to return to their habitat. “We wanted to...
