- When Pinkie introduces her visiting sister, the others find they can't relate to that sibling's completely different personality.
- Pinkie Pie eagerly invites her friends over to Sugarcube Corner, to prepare Rock Candy for her sister Maud's planned week-long visit to Ponyville. Pinkie explains that she and her sister have made Rock Candy necklaces whenever they've seen each other, and she's excited to have her friends in on the tradition, sure they'll all like her!
The group then goes and prepares a small picnic for Maud's arrival. When Pinkie introduces her sister, her friends are unsure how to react. Unlike Pinkie, Maud is very quiet and a little slow. As well, she seems to be very much fascinated by rocks. The group's attempts to get her to open up yield little results, as Maud's voice almost sounds like she's disinterested.
Thinking maybe they all need to just get to know Maud a little more, each of the ponies agrees to spend some one-on-one time with her:- Rarity intends to fashion an outfit for Maud, but she finds herself content with a dirty dishrag.
- Fluttershy shows Maud some of the critters in the nearby forest, but Maud is moreso interested in the rocks.
- Twilight Sparkle finds out that Maud likes poetry, but is not that interested in her 'rock-based poetry.'
- Rainbow Dash tests Maud in a rock-tossing contest. Maud does show up Rainbow when her toss is amazing, but shocks Rainbow when she mentions that 'winning' isn't important to her.
Eventually, the girls go to Pinkie, and mention that while she is excited to make Rock Candy necklaces, they don't feel they are really friends with Maud, causing Pinkie to grow sad.
Eventually, Pinkie creates an obstacle course, that she feels will solve this problem. Each leg of the course has a section specifically attuned to each of them. However, in attempting to run the course herself, Pinkie gets her leg caught in a rockpile at the end, causing an enormous boulder at the top to rush towards her!
Everyone is then surprised when Maud quickly rushes to her sister's rescue, breaking down the boulder into dust, and freeing her sister. It is after this, that Maud decides to leave, feeling that being in Ponyville isn't working out. She does express to the others that her sister is lucky to have friends like them, before deciding to return to her parent's Rock Farm. Upon hearing this, Pinkie decides to go with her sister, but is sad that this visit has ended without the tradition of making their Rock Candy necklaces.
After they leave, the others discuss just how surprising it was how Maud leaped into action to save her sister, and come to an understanding.
Making it to the Rock Farm before the sisters, they bring along several bags of Rock Candy, and explain to Maud that they understand more about her. The girls spend the rest of the week on the farm and end up making necklaces for Maud before she has to leave.
And as tradition, Maud and Pinkie exchange necklaces. However, while Pinkie happily begins to eat hers, Twilight notices Maud pull out a box, that contains several other necklaces...each one made by Pinkie in the past. Twilight is a little perplexed why Maud would do this.
"I don't really like candy," says Maud, "but I love Pinkie Pie." Truly, the necklaces being a symbol of the bond between the two sisters, who love each other, even if they aren't exactly the same.
