I was throughly surprised by the 'House of David'. I gave it a reluctant try, figuring that it would be low-budget and cheesy. It was most certainly neither.
The cinematography, locations, direction and acting, were all first rate.
Michael Iskander (David) shines in a breakout role.
Some people have voiced problems with this series because it takes liberties with the Biblical stories, but this is not a documentary, and the disclaimer begins each episode that whilst there is every attempt at authenticity, creative liberties have been taken for storytelling purposes.
I look very much forward to Season 2!

As for as Biblical series go, the first three episodes is one of the best I've seen so far.
They caveat every episode with a statement that some drama has been added to fill out the story however they have tried to remain biblically accurate overall. Yes there is some additional dialogue and aspects not expressely stated in scripture however I don't think it contradicts anything written. The show is not meant to be a substitute for actually reading the Bible, it's supposed to be entertainment based on the Biblical story. Largely they've done a pretty good job.
I see some very petty complaints from those giving bad reviews like Samuel being called a "Seer" rather than a "Prophet". Yet the bible literally says in those days prophets were called seers (1 Samuel 9:9).
Enjoy it for what it is, an entertaining biblical adaptation.

One reviewer gave it a low review because they said they were trying too hard to make it like Game of Thrones. CLEARLY this person has never read the Old Testament because Game of Thrones pales in comparison to the fighting over kingdoms in that part of the Bible. This show does a fantastic job bringing that era in history to life.
As this show goes, I found it as accurate as it could be, considering the Bible is "aerodynamic", seeing as it is very good at getting to the point and not going too in detail with things that ultimately don't matter. So they had to do what they had to do to fill in the blanks with this show, the same way they did with The Chosen, but I feel like it's better done, and more Biblically accurate, that that show. I'd absolutely recommend if you're interested in seeing the Bible fleshed out before your eyes.

My family and I happened upon this mini series by chance. We ended up binge watching and staying up all night. It was captivating, we aren't scholars but are religious as Christians and it felt accurate. We have loved watching this series and hope more Biblical series continue. Great job prime!!! We also appreciated the quality of acting as well as the top name casts. You can tell money was spent to make a quality mini series as well as the writing. We were highly impressed and plan to keep watching as more and more are produced. We also had to open our bible and find the names and revisit some of the story for ourselves which was great. Again - great job Prime Movies!!!

I know well the story of King David and still this series has me on the edge of my seat as we get to delve deeper into both Saul's and David's story, as interpreted by the writer's perspective. The series presents ideas regarding societal influence and human behaviors that we may have never considered while simply reading the scriptural text. I absolutely love that there's not an actor that I've seen anywhere before and yet they all brilliantly portray their characters. I certainly hope that we can expect several seasons of this series because it would be cruel to stop at season 1! Well done! 10/10 for me!

Stunning work . Epic drama in a good way. Not my religion but it doesn't make it less enjoyable. Would be a pity if people are reviewing for or against on religious grounds, it will put people off and do the show a disservice I think. Really liked the filming and the colours of everything . Lots of high quality actors that don't overplay. Storyline is great for someone that is only familiar with the basic David and Goliath story. Only complaint I have is the cutting between child David and adult David bit jarring as they look nothing alike. Thoroughly enjoyed the rest so I'll forgive it 9 3/4 stars so far.

As a big fan of The Chosen, I was immediately excited when I heard that the story of King David was being adapted into its own series. The biblical account of David is one of the most fascinating stories in the Old Testament-full of drama, suspense, divine guidance, and human struggles. Expectations for a cinematic adaptation were naturally high.
After watching the first two episodes, I can say that House of David has impressed me. The production quality is outstanding, the cinematography is captivating, and the actors bring depth and authenticity to their characters. David, in particular, is portrayed as a complex figure-a young man with a deep relationship with God, yet also grappling with internal struggles and insecurities.
It is clear that the creators of the series have taken some artistic liberties to make the storytelling more engaging. However, these changes do not take away from the core message-in fact, they enhance it. The essence of the story remains intact: David's anointing by God, his time as a shepherd, his legendary battle against Goliath, and his rise to kingship are all told with great dedication.
One aspect I particularly enjoyed is the atmosphere of the series. The sets, costumes, and music all contribute to making the world of the Old Testament feel vivid and immersive. You can sense the harsh realities of life at the time, as well as the spiritual depth of David's relationship with God.
Of course, there are moments when biblically faithful viewers may question whether certain scenes are historically or theologically accurate. But that is a challenge every adaptation of biblical stories faces. What matters most to me is that the central message of the story remains intact-and House of David achieves that remarkably well.
Overall, the first two episodes have left a positive impression on me. I am excited to see how the story unfolds and whether the series does justice to the epic life of David in all its complexity. So far, I am optimistic and looking forward to what's next.

This could have been an epic series by jus few changes done. Instead of making a melodramatic soap opera ending with the battle between David and Goliath, this alone should have been given an entire episode. The greatest king who ever lived deserved it. David should have walked the field of battle like he had the entire army of God's angels behind him and not showing any fear although he was a man. He was anointed by God, after all. Also, he wasn't supposed to be touched by Goliath in any way, he was guarded by God. Too bad, to much family drama shown and less history or the portrayal of David.

I love biblical adaptations and old time dramas like this. Let me just say that this show totally blew me away. I was completely riveted throughout, especially the latest episode 8! Wow, what an episode and conclusion. Even though we all know what happens in the story according to the Bible, to watch it played out so amazingly depicted on screen really gives you a visualization and appreciation of what emotions were going through people at that time. This final episode had me cheering for David, and it was like I was watching a Stanley Cup final hockey game. It was that good, at least for me. I can't wait to watch more episodes, because there is an awful lot to the story of King David.
As the disclaimer at the beginning of the show states, there might be some inconsistencies with the biblical account. However, it's mostly on track and is an excellent use of your time if you want to learn the story. It's especially good if you are studying the Bible and old testament.
Everything about this production, from the sets, costumes, acting and direction, is all top of the line and very professionally done. This show and The Chosen series are blockbusters.

At first I was so excited. The first episode wasn't bad. But then there is so much about his mother and other random stories that are not true. If you know your Bible it irritates me that they stray so far from the truth. The book of David is so action packed and exciting they don't need to do that. Won't be watching the rest of the episodes after the first 2. Since it is making me write more. If you have. Strong relationship with Jesus then this will just upset you. Why do we have to always twist the truth, when the truth is so much more interesting and exciting. Hope this is only one season and doesn't make people go astray. Jesus is king!!!!

Forget the dragons and fabricated kingdoms - House of David delivers the REAL Game of Thrones, a gripping saga of power, faith, and human fallibility. This isn't just a biblical retelling; it's a masterclass in character development and storytelling. From the stunning production values to the incredibly nuanced writing, House of David elevates the genre. The casting is superb, particularly the portrayal of Samuel, David, Saul, and Jonathan, who bring depth and complexity to these iconic figures. The series brilliantly captures the tension of King Saul's tragic rebellion against God, juxtaposed with the divine selection of a humble shepherd boy, David. As Samuel aptly puts it, "God is funny," and this series explores that divine irony with both reverence and dramatic flair. The struggle for the throne, the internal conflicts, and the spiritual battles are all rendered with a level of sophistication rarely seen in faith-based productions. This isn't just a show for believers; it's a compelling drama that will resonate with anyone who appreciates a well-told story. House of David sets a new standard for biblical epics, proving that faith-based content can be both powerful and artistically excellent. A must-watch!

I watched the first couple of episodes and was immediately captivated-now I can't wait for the rest! The production quality is top-notch, with stunning cinematography, excellent performances, and an immersive soundtrack that brings the story to life. It's clear that a lot of effort went into making this series both visually and emotionally engaging. The storytelling is compelling, making it easy to imagine what David's life must have truly been like so long ago. The show has sparked so many meaningful discussions, and I love how it brings biblical history to life in such a relatable and powerful way. Highly recommended!

I highly recommend the House of David series! I think they stuck to the Scriptures just enough, which is the most important when telling a Bible story. They got so many details right-without spoilers: Samuel's long hair (since no blade could touch his head), Saul's striking appearance, the anointing of David, Goliath actually being a real giant, and so on. The key moments should absolutely be followed because the Bible itself is such an epic source material! The greatest script ever written has been printed in billions of copies.
David's singing in the series is just precious to the Holy Spirit I can feel it. I truly hope the creators give all the glory to God, both in the show and in their own lives-He should be the center of it all.
The only thing I was missing after the first two episodes was a clearer depiction of how wicked the surrounding nations were. But thankfully, the third episode starts to highlight this aspect as well, which helps to understand why God previously commanded their destruction.
I really really hope they will not let out any moments from the original story which is absolutely stunning!
Thank you creators, thank you Jesus!

Why did they pick an actor who looks nothing like the biblical description of David! There's definitely plenty of liberties taken from the biblical text. The mother quoting psalms that weren't even written yet to David in episode 2. I could go on and on. While there's moments that it goes back to the biblical text, there's also outright made up things that did not happen to David. I don't want to post spoilers, but it's distracting to see Goliath attack David in the first episode when that also did not happen. There's plenty of real deep drama in the Biblical text for there to be any need to make up so much BS. We have multiple books from that time period, why not write from 1&2 Samuel, 1&2 kings, psalms, 1& 2 Chornicles, there's endless story line there.

Wow. 10/10. So thankful to see something so rich and so beautifully done to represent this foundational story to our Christian faith. I was totally fine with all of the creative liberties. If they had taken no creative liberties, it would have been a one 20 minute short film. The additions are so well done and engage the viewer into a world that needs explaining and needs discovering. So. Good.
The acting is so so good. The setting is alive and rich. And wow, Samuel is BOSS!! My new favorite character. And so fitting. I feel like he's the Bible Yoda 😂. Cant wait for the remaining episodes!! Stop reading and just go watch it.

The first 3 episodes tell a compelling true story out of the Bible but embellish it with dialogue and scenery that comes close to a B rated show. The actors are pretty good except for the Botoxed wife of King Saul. The story does take shape with the brothers all treating David as the bastard he really is . The loner who loves God and worries more about the 1 sheep than the flock. He is the target God would pick for one of the most faithful Kings in all of Biblical history.
He is the true underdog and that is a good plot. And it's a true story! So the value in this show is someone finally took on the challenge to do what no one has done to date and that is bring a series of the real heroes in all of history to the big screen ( in my living room). A story we all knew. But not really! Congrats on the piece and I hope the rest of the series is a bit more A rated. Lets give it an A for effort and B for execution.
Honorable mention: A for lead actor playing young David.

The production value and the acting is top notch. However, the fact that they did not follow the biblical text is pretty sad because they could have had a larger audience. Using the actual biblical text with this quality of production would have not only been exciting and great to see on the screen, but it would have opened it up to a greater audience. Those who really want to see the actual biblical text on the screen would have stuck around to watch it, in my opinion. I wish they would have been more inspired by The Chosen and other Christian productions that trusted the biblical text and succeeded.

The story of David is so beautifully Depicted and narrative is so good in every frame & stunning visuals, Fan of The Chosen series and I love this House of David. I Would definitely recommend this to everyone. Shepherd Boy to King is the Story of King David who has been chosen by God by looking at his heart. God molded David and he fought Lion & Giant & many more wars as a King, he had a downfall but risen up and his heart was close to God, The Book of Psalms in Bible is written by King David of Israel which speaks Life in the Darkness, His songs are recorded as the book of Psalms in Holy Bible.

I like some of it, but this "Game of Thrones" pattern regarding Saul's family is getting old. There is so much written about David and Saul. They could've spent a lot of time on it. Obviously, writers have to flesh out scenes with some supposition to make the story flow, but most of the program is imaginary with a slight amount of scriptural reference added from 1 Samuel. It actually seems elements of David's adult life are being grafted into Saul's.
Also, there are distracting anachronisms. Saul's home looks like a medieval castle, they dine at western looking tables and there are several modern sensibilities added that wouldn't have occurred thousands of years ago. I'm hoping it gets better with subsequent episodes. Maybe they're hoping to get on track for a second season.

I was obsessed with this series since episode one and anxiously awaited each episode. I just watched the finale which exceeded expectation. For what is a fairly short story in the Bible, they did a great job expanding it out to a full 8-episode series, and the actual final confrontation between David and Goliath was nicely drawn out as well.
All the actors were wonderful, especially David (Michael Iskander), Saul (Ali Suliman), and Samuel (Stephen Lang).
This is my favorite TV show so far of 2025. I'm so glad it did so well on Amazon. Looking forward to season 2.
I'm also a fan of The Chosen. These biblical epics with deep character development are hitting the spot at the moment. Hopefully the success of these two series will lead to more of the same.

The new tv series, "House of David" shocked my family and me. It's a Biblical story that has the feel of the movie, "300". The quality of the work was the most surprising and we found it to be very entertaining. People who are normally glued to their phones were actively engaged while watching. I often find that projects like these do not get the budget required to reach wider audiences. Despite the niche genre, I feel people will really enjoy watching this series no matter what walks of life they come from. I look forward to watching the rest and eagerly anticipate more works from this director.
Think this was a great start to the series - plenty of scene shifts at tense moments keeps the momentum. The violence of the battles and fights are not overdone and gorey but give you a sense of reality while being rated 13+.
Great contrast of tender and fierce moments in the story.
The filming locations are stunning, as are the costumes. The tension between characters and scenes made it a compelling watch for me. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
I am familiar with the story from the Bible and it was really interesting to see how the story was interpreted, the internal and external battles of the key characters, and the contrast between good and bad character defined by obedience to the voice of God vs fear.
