Csanád Gémesi (Gödöllö, November 13, 1986 -) is a Hungarian saber fencer, world and European champion, and Olympic bronze medalist.
Sports Career:
Csanád Gémesi was introduced to fencing in his childhood, with his father and uncle also engaging in the sport. Among his siblings, the eldest became a junior world champion and European bronze medalist. In 2003, he won a team bronze medal at the Cadet World Championships. In 2013, at the World Championships hosted in Hungary, he bid farewell to the individual competition, eventually won by the later bronze medalist Áron Szilágyi. In 2014, he secured a silver medal at the Madrid World Cup and a bronze medal at the Fencing European Championships, just as he did at the Kazan World Championships. In the 2017 World Championships in Leipzig, he won a team silver medal. In 2018, he won a team gold medal at the European Championships in Novi Sad.
At the 2019 European Championships in Düsseldorf and the Budapest World Championships, he won silver as a member of the saber team. In the Tokyo Olympics, he earned a team bronze medal in the saber event alongside Szilágyi, Szatmári, and Decsi.
In 2022, he finished eighth individually at the European Championships, and as part of the team (Decsi, Szatmári, Szilágyi), he secured a team gold medal. In the 2023 European Championships, he finished in 21st place. At the 2023 World Championships in Milan, the saber team composed of Áron Szilágyi, Tamás Decsi, András Szatmári, and Csanád Gémesi reclaimed the world champion title, marking the first victory since 2007.
