See You in Valhalla still manages a decent payoff. A scrappy/sappy dramedy about siblings who return, after their “Viking” brother’s death to the home they once fled, it covers over-familiar ground without much in the line of novelty.
Village Voice
See You in Valhalla struggles to assemble a cohesive conflict for its ensemble cast to overcome.
Washington Post
See You in Valhalla, which is being released simultaneously in select theaters and on demand, is as deadly as its funereal subject matter.
It all feels forced and fabricated.
Featuring stereotypical characterizations and painfully awkward dialogue, the film treats its dramatic themes with a wince-inducing shallowness. Virtually nothing in the drawn-out proceedings works on any level, and the characters are so inherently unlikeable that being in their company is as painful for viewers as it is for them.
