Dr. Alan Farragut and his ex-wife Dr. Julia Walker are called to an Arctic research facility in order to investigate Alan's brother, Dr. Peter Farragut, who is infected with an unknown virus that seems to give him further strengths. Things are not what they look to be on the Arctic research facility.
Did You Know?
When Dr.s Walker and Jordan are examining the blood sample and find an organism, Dr. Jordan exclaims that it is "only 15 nanometers". First, on the screen, the scale bar would indicate it is closer to 15 microns (length, maybe 0.5 microns in diameter), second, the practical resolution limit of this kind of instrument is 200 nm and that would not be nearly as clear an image. The only way to see an object this small would be to use an electron microscope, which requires a sealed vacuum chamber and so cannot image living organisms. As well, high magnification in an optical microscope requires using an oil immersion lens which has a very short focal length meaning that the objective (lens) would appear to be nearly touching the specimen. You can see that there are several inches between the stage, where the sample would be, and the magnification lenses. See more
