One Sunday morning, a no typical customer walks into a small time barber shop in East Delhi, demanding a shave. Having faced the ordeal of 1984 anti-Sikh reprisal, Manjeet Singh Sandhu, a devout Sikh-turned-barber mulls over and faces an epiphany of sorts, upon coming face to face with his bête noire. Contextualized in the socio-religious political events of 1984-87 India (in the aftermath of Operation Bluestar and Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassination), Rab da Vaasta (For God's Sake) - Every Drop Matters, is a screen adaptation of Hernando Téllez's well-known story - Espuma y nada más (Just Lather, That's All). Written by Chakravarty Devulapalli

...where courage and violence collide!
10 October 2013 | by donald-yatesSee all my reviews

The background of the film depicts events in India's history that I am not familiar with, but nonetheless the main (present) action seems perfectly natural and fitting, despite its having been inspired by the plot of a story written at a different time and in a different place. I believe this confirms something we both think: that the tale of the barber and his enemy dramatizes a situation that is profoundly human and applicable every place on earth where courage and violence collide.

The emotional tension is maintained throughout, despite the repeated use of flashbacks that interrupt the main events (in the barbershop). The two levels of narration that you have created are masterfully interwoven and lead, in a very dramatic fashion, to the extraordinary revelation at the story's climax.

I am very pleased to have been able to make available to you my version of Tellez's memorable vignette and I warmly congratulate you on your laudable achievement.

All best wishes.
