Plot Summary

Charlie suffers from cataplexy, a symptom of narcolepsy that causes sudden bouts of paralysis whenever he experiences strong emotions -- in particular, joy. He develops a variety of techniques to deny himself too much pleasure and happiness, but they're put to the ultimate test when he falls in love.

Quotes Charlie: I can't drive with the radio on in case anything by The Pointer Sisters comes on and I swerve into a ditch. I can't walk along any beach where there might be frolicking seals. I can't eat Kettle Corn. I can't boogie board. I can't swim in any body if water that is higher than my chest, especially if there's some guy playing with his gorgeous Golden Retriever. I can't barbecue unsupervised. I probably can't go to The Grand Canyon just based on the pictures I've seen 'cause it's too breathtakingly beautiful. I would like to have kids, but they either have to be boring or spoiled because cute, adorable...
Francesca: [interrupts] Charlie! We'll adopt the worst kids we can find.
