    Summary

Reviewers say 'Outlander' is acclaimed for its epic love story, historical accuracy, and rich production values. Strong performances by Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, along with meticulous attention to costumes and sets, are highlighted. However, some criticize deviations from the source material and excessive focus on certain characters. The blend of romance, drama, and historical context is noted, though pacing and character development are seen as inconsistent. The show's handling of violence and sexual content is also a point of contention.

    Love it, but...

I'm late to discover this series, and managed to binge it all to Season 7A in a month. The first 2 seasons feel like a completely different show, it keeps me glued and craving just one more episode. But my God the beginning of Season 3 was a chore. I know many don't like Richard but man, I love him as Roger, he just brings a realism to the character for me. Sophie however comes across as an acting student trying too hard to play a spoilt child. Her scenes are downright painful to watch and there is 0 chemistry between her and Richard, and man who's idea was that terrible accent? Really the wrong actress for the part.

    Better Than Expected!

Outlander was so much better than I expected it to be. It's much more than just another love story. I just got caught up through the latest season and floored by how much I enjoyed it. It is so well written and acted that you really come to care for these characters and what happens to them. It's also beautifully shot, everything from the cinematography to the costumes are excellent. The overall production value on this s as good as anything on tv. I do have to say the the last few seasons weren't quite as good as the earlier ones but they're still worth watching. If you haven't seen this yet then do yourself a favor and go watch as soon as possible!

Excellent Series-but-Then there was Bree !

I enjoyed the first few seasons of this series--the acting is superb.

The facial expressions and the emotions. Top marks for the costumes, the scenery and the music. Later on after they arrive in America things start to slow down. Too much time on the lovemaking scenes(here we go again) too much time on pointless dialogue as if they are trying to fill in the time. What really turned me off is the main focus now seems to be on Bree. This actress (Sophia) is totally miscast in this role. She always looks like she is reading off a monitor. Her voice is horrible and she has a surly facial expression that is not part of the act. The lines that she is speaking are just very bad but could have passed with a different actress. There is absolutely no spark at all with her and Roger (who is also getting tiresome) Anyways it seems that some series just go on for too long and the writing starts to suffer.

First seasons were incredible but boring now

The first two seasons were amazing. I could not take my eyes of the screen.

The music, the set, the characters were perfect.

However, it took a huge nosedive after season 3 and became really boring.

Brianna and Rodger are really annoying and Brianna especially is hard to watch sometimes.

It's really disappointing because it was such an amazing show. I did watch season 4 and still me of season 5 but it just became apparent that it was never going to get its magic back. So I've quit the show.

Not sure if it is the same story as the book but I did but the books and think I'm going to read those instead.

    At last...

For the past 23 years, Outlander has been a presence in my life. Have read it countless times, in fact started it again just yesterday. I am proud and humbled to be One of the Original Seven Ladies of Lallybroch, associated with one of the very first global groups devoted to Diana Gabaldon and The Books. For decades, the idea of a cinematic version of The Books has teased and taunted us, flirting with our imaginations and hopes. Now, it is here. And here it is. Every detail is brilliant - script, costumes, sets, and yes, the actors. The Series is a visual companion to The Books, and a boon companion it is. It is also an adaptation, not a verbatim recitation. Fidelity to our beloved characters and story is assured by the continuing involvement of Diana in the creative process. She fiercely protects her story and, in the process, her fans - which are both legion and legend. Caitriona Balfe truly IS Claire, as Sam Heughan IS Jamie. A cup up to Ron Moore, Maril Davis, and the entire crew (Terry for the amazing costumes)for giving us Our Outlander...

    • Trivia
According to Ronald D. Moore (the TV Series developer), his crew decided to keep the Gaelic words instead of translating them to English. This maintained the first person narrative by showing Claire's inability to understand Gaelic. This idea was suggested by producer David Brown, who said he's seen something similar in Skin Deep (1998), a foreign alternative movie starring the actor and singer Gustavo Goulart.
    • Goofs
In a few episodes, characters say"OK." An American term that didn't come into use until the 19th Century.
    • Crazy credits
The opening song changes from season to season to reflect what's happening in the story line. In the first half of Season 2 (which is set in France), part of the lyrics are in French. In the second half of Season 2 (which is mostly about preparing for war), there is a militaristic drum roll added to the opening song. During Season 3, there are tribal drums added because much of the season is set in the West Indies. In Season 4, bluegrass fiddle and banjos are added, plus some of the lyrics are sung with a Southern accent because the season is set mostly in America.
