'Die you pig!'. The words are emblazoned on the wall of the home of school principal Höpfl for all the people of the village to see. And soon after, this very man is found lying dead as a doornail on the train tracks! Franz Eberhofer, the local policeman in the sleepy Lower Bavarian province of Niederkaltenkirchen, suspects murder. And the prospect is one that does not entirely displease him, as this backwoods offers very little excitement other than the fantastic meals with his cooking-obsessed Grandma or the constant stress with his Beatles-loving Dad. He is supported by Rudi Birkenberger, now a department store detective but previously with Franz in the Munich detective squad until both were suspended. The Höpfl case gets even more tangled when a second corpse is found, that of a drug addict hustler that Höpfl had been in contact with. Funny Crime Movie With Dry, Self-Ironic Bavarian Humor
6 February 2020 | by BreumasterSee all my reviews

I like these bavarian movies, which mostly always show a bizarre crime scene on these little fictional countryside villages. Franz Eberhofer, a little villages cop has to cope with the case, the circumstances and his father, who has a marihuana plantation, which isn't allowed in Germany, of course. His mother does the most typical meals of bavaria and any movie of this series has another meal's title, mixed with common music anglicisms. The humor is made of bavarian stereotypes. It's most funny when the people interact, specially Eberhofers friends and his chief, but also his family. It also becomes sometimes more serious, when the police work is in the focus. In Germany, the movies of this series are very succesful, because it's dry and sometimes black humor. Clear recommendation.
