Encanto

Encanto handily overcomes it's bumpy start with wonderfully complex, relatable characterization, gorgeously vibrant animation, and constant humor that never detracts from the raw emotion of the struggling characters.

There are some very clunky bits of exposition that induce eye-rolling, and the world building was a little too undercooked for my taste (I would have loved to have seen more exploration of how the "gifts" affect the townspeople, among other things).

But despite these minor complaints, this is such a terrifically fun, surprisingly tense, emotionally rich ride that I did NOT expect to enjoy as much as I did.
