After returning to Raimon, Matsukaze Tenma slowly discovers that something is wrong. For some reason the soccer club room doesn't seem to exist anymore, none of his teammates seem to recognize him, and they're all acting like they're not part of the soccer club. A depressed Tenma is confronted by a mysterious individual calling himself Alpha. Alpha claims that they have had their "connections to soccer" erased from their pasts, resulting in the current present. Transporting himself and Tenma to a point in the past, Tenma recognizes it as the moment from his childhood when he first gain his deep love for soccer, the moment when a kick of a soccer ball prevented him from being brushed, potentially to death. Tenma soon realizes Alpha's plan: change the course of history, so that he gets crushed.
