Storyline

'Miklat' (The Hebrew word for 'shelter') explores the role that bomb shelters play in the security and psyche of ordinary Israelis. Directed by veteran war photographer, Rita Leistner, Miklat is the first film in a trilogy about Lebanon, Israel and Palestine. Poetic and pastoral, political and contemplative, Miklat is also a formally original film that merges exquisite still images with motion portraits and first person narration to raise questions about boundaries -- personal, formal and geographic -- and, ultimately, how we look upon 'the other,' inside and beyond the constructed landscapes of conflict.
