Elizabeth Thatcher, a young woman from a wealthy family, moves to the small town of Coal Valley to be the new teacher. As she struggles to adapt to living on the western frontier, she makes new friends including the local Mounted Police Officer, Jack Thornton.

A common theme throughout Jack and Elizabeth's relationship is "Love is patient, love is kind" from 1 Corinthians 13. But with the series set in the early 1900s, the only English version of the Bible available at the time was the King James version which says "Charity suffereth long and is kind". The NIV version is what says "love is patient, love is kind" and wasn't published until 1973. See more
