Lazarus doesn't really do anything unique or mind-blowing. Like his previous works, the protagonist on a wild goose chase in search of something. In this case, he's in search of a doctor who holds the only cure for a medicine that will eventually kill everyone who took it ever. The premise is actually pretty tame, realistic, and contained compared to other Watanabe's works. The characters aren't really standouts, even the protagonist. I would say it's worth the watch if you like his other works Cowboy Bebop, Space Dandy, Samurai Champloo but Lazarus honestly falls short of all of these titles by far. The dubbing also isn't good and breaks the gloomy vibe. I'd suggest the sub if you really want to not break immersion because sometimes the English VA is just...bad. The soundtrack, as per usual from Watanabe, delivers. The score during most scenes helps enhance the gloomy aesthetic that it's going for. Not a bad work by any means but it's not a must watch either.

Within seconds of watching the first episode, the abysmal voice acting was apparent, and not just from one or two characters but across the board. It's very obvious that they did not give the English voice casting an adequate budget. What's shocking about this is the fact that this series was created by the same guy responsible for Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, two of the best voice acted anime series ever created, but this show has bad voice acting even for an average anime.
Aside from that, Lazarus is extremely derivative and has a boring/generic setting. The whole premise of the show (so far, anyway) seems like it was thought up in a matter of minutes. It honestly feels like Watanabe is just kinda over making anime, and this was something he did simply because a really good offer came along.
Definitely don't go into this series expecting something on par with the likes of Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo. It's nowhere even close to that level of overall quality or artistic vision.

The animation is beautiful from the studio mappa. The story revolves around a future drug which can cure any diseases from this world. But after couple of years later the creator of drug comes out and tells the world they have less then 30 days to live but if they find a cure in that time they will be saved. So a group of organisers from government has well has criminal gangs try to find the doctor responsible for creating this drug in first place but he himself is hidden somewhere unknown dead or alive. Only first episode is released. But a group called Lazarus is trying to find him and recruit a criminal to find him. Love the direction from John wick director.
To be honest, this has to be one of the most visually stunning anime episodes i've ever seen. Shinichiro Watanabe is one of the best anime directors and we could see why he has that reputation.
The story is intriguing, the characters are all well designed and interesting, and the animation is greatly executed with the nonstop action sequences, and of course the ost, and music, has to be one of the main protagonist of a Watanabe creation, so overall, just one episode, but is promising as hell, and one serious candidate to anime of the year. And yes, i'm not overrating.
Watanabe and Stahelski make a fantastic work together, making this one of the most beautifully action animes we could ever imagined. I'm really waiting for more of this story, which i didn't even get into this review, but it's fantastic as well. Long live to this productions.

I'm loving this show man the concept ,the story ,the lore they are giving little by little ,the animation, the sound design and the action is great too it's grounded but it's good you know and also they have given some thoughts on world building it's looking good man and the vibe of the show is really cool the character's are likeable you know the main character has some mystery to it and the side character are interesting too i wanna see them how they all come together as a team looking forward to it.
So yeah if you wanna watch something good ,something new it's for you.
And i don't know why people are not liking the show, i mean i get the not liking part you know everyone has different taste but just fully hating the show not justify.

An interesting series from which I expect a lot in terms of animation and entertainment.
Firstly, because the technical team is of high quality and it's a MAPPA production.
Although the first 2 episodes are easy to watch, the series doesn't escape the flaws of current productions:

- A basic scenario if you're a fan of Japanese animation that's afraid of going too far.
- a main character who's impossible to stop (prison, technology, policeman...) but a girl comes along! We know where this illogic comes from...
- a bunch of kids more intelligent than the population as a whole...

This show is beautifully portrayed from episode one it immediately builds curiosity within the first 5 mins of the plot being everyone will die within a month, Axel being our main character intrigues me very early on in the episode our first scene with him being a prison break. The show incorporates real life elements like stalks and pharmaceutical companies its very much so like common side effects but more action and in an anime people often try to compare it to cowboy bebop but just because its made by the same creator does not mean its aiming for the same effect they're two completely different shows and concepts. This show is amazing the plot is great pacing is good for the first ep people often try to rush it but seriously have the attention spans of a goldfish in this day and age if you enjoy good mystery and action with a little bit of jazz I believe you can enjoy this show remember its an art not a jester to entertain this show is meant to be taken slow its not bad pacing your just rushing greatness.
The premise could be interesting, but the execution is too bland. The story feels very empty and simply asks you to accept its implausibility. It's basically a protagonist on the run, ridiculously "escaping" from prison with a generic action, just filling in the blanks without any sense of danger or interest.
It's written by someone who doesn't know how a drug comes to market, what scientists do, or how to make a prison feel real.
I'm starting to think this is done with an artificial intelligence calculated to satisfy the algorithm needed to sell a "cool" anime. Just one episode and drop it.

I watched anime when I was in middle school and I put this on every Saturday night, and.... it's terrible. It feels like a poor man's attempt at writing a Call of Duty campaign (replace Makarov with Skinner) but it's so weeb-ish.
Every episode is essentially -mission briefing -villain of the week that's somehow connected to the big bad (just like Call of Duty) -2d flat character making 2d flat jokes -the choppiest fight scenes ever -villain of the week losing for being a misogynist and giving info that leads to the next mission.
It's like when you go to anime move in theater and all the nerds laugh at unfunny jokes, this is what watching this feels like.
I was more of an Outlaw Star than Cowboy Bebop fan anyway.
I would give it a 5, but I like Eleina.
Edit I'm watching the cult episode. Holy Jesus.... It's like the writers watched "Top 10 scary cults" vid on YouTube and wrote characters based on it.
It's like someone gave the writers the cult episode from the simpsons family guy South Park and king of the hill and told them to give their own modern take on it.
Except there's no modern take and they somehow made the the take more flat and outdated then something from the 90s and a cartoon.

I was so intrigued at first with the concept of the show. But within minutes it was ruined with inappropriate music, ridiculous characters, and terrible writing. As others have already said, it seems like a pathetic attempt to go after a Cowboy BeBop vibe without putting in the necessary work. I can't believe that they thought the approach that they took would make sense given the premise of the show. I'm halfway through the second episode in writing this. I'll keep watching in hope it gets better - i know that paid off with Pantheon, so maybe they'll turn it around. If it does, I'll come back and update my rating.
...this comes from Watanabe Shirow, because it lacks everything that made Cowboy Bebop so damned good.
The characters in Lazarus are two-dimensional, with nothing remotely interesting about them. They're boring, predictable, lazy, and stereotyped/clichèd. The dialog is pedantic, and the English dub is excruciatingly stilted and painfully slow. The storyline is just virtue-signaling scolding nonsense (I watch anime to be preached to? Who knew? Not me). And then there's the antagonist who has a completely contradictory agenda: everyone's to blame, so I'm going to kill everyone, except no I'm not, because if you can find me everyone will live. Huh?
The entire first episode has 15 minutes of parkour because...? I don't know either. But I do know it got really stale after the first five minutes.

The episode one concept of the story was very intriguing and caught my interest right from the start. However, the flow and vibe of the animation is all off. The music doesn't sync with the action. The main character is unrealistically are too agile for it to be believed. And the "the climate is going to be unlivable in 3 years" thing has not aged well. They had a real opportunity here to make something special and they blew it. I wish I could go on with the series but when the plot holes are so large they can't be ignored then you just can't take the series seriously. Too bad, I think with a little intelligent writing this could have been a great series.
