Two years into his career as the Batman, Bruce Wayne finds himself the 50 million dollar target of eight deadly assassins, all contracted by Black Mask. Upon confronting a member of the GCPD, Batman also finds his best chance at having an ally. Written by Peter Gonzalez
Okay my opinion of the Arkham games goes that the first one was a fun beat-em-up that got me to know the Batman villains. The second one is actually one of my favorite games. After handing the project over to WB games Montreal they made what is essentially the same game as Arkham City only if it didn't have as good of a story and was well... glitchy.
Okay so the story, Black Mask (Who is he again?) hires assassins to kill Batman and he has to get them one by one on Christmas Eve in Gotham. You also go around finding Riddler (Oh sorry, Enigma) challenges as well as stopping a revolutionist named Anarchy. Once you find out that Black Mask is really The Joker you beat him and after that he breaks out of Blackgate Prison and the climax is exactly the first game except squeezed into the last 6th of this one.
Okay the complaints. The first is that it's 2013 when this game was made, why is it that the controls seem completely fluent like the other games but then out of nowhere either reworks them completely so buttons you're used to do completely different things or you can't fight back. These glitches aren't the ones you just laugh at, these are the ones that p!ss you off. I could accept it more if the game was around 15 years old or something but no! This was made LAST YEAR.
There are other glitches that I'd like to nickname "Kitty Pride" glitches that appear in this game. There is a point on the Penguin's boat where if you throw a remote controlled Batarang at the wall it will phase through it and you can control it to move around in-between the walls of the boat. This is fun to exploit, what's not fun is having to reset the game when you phase through the floor in a boss fight.
After 2 whole paragraphs on glitches you might be thinking "This sounds like sh!t," and I can see why I mean if you don't exploit glitches like I do then of course you're going to say "I don't want to buy it!" but the rest of the game-play is exactly like Batman Arkham City except for shock gloves which really speeds up a fight. And playing levels where you enter The Joker's mind as he's being interviewed by Harleen Quinzel... Please! Never do that again.
I also have to point this out. I like that they at least tried to put emotion into the story with Batman and Alfred. The relationship is one that I really liked seeing progress in this game. Does it work? Well at times it really does like the cut-scene where it's revealed that Alfred is worried about him doing what he does because he doesn't want to see Bruce die like his parents... THAT was well done as was the cut-scene after you save his life. Might be small but it is worth a mention.
So all in all do I think you should go out and buy it? Boy is that the million dollar question. I mean while the glitches happen it happens rarely so you won't be falling through floors every time you turn this game on but then again there will be times when you are walking a clear 20 foot above the floor for a couple of seconds. The game-play is still fun even if they don't really put anything inventive to it like Arkham City does. If you can get past glitches I'd say pick it up but if you can't then I'd say this game is not worth it.
