The Babysitter Killer
21 December 2016 | by a_baronSee all my reviews

The years 1976-7 saw a truly bizarre series of child murders in Michigan. Over a thirteen month period, two boys and two girls were snatched off the streets. The boys were sexually violated, and all the bodies were left where they could easily be found, their clothes having been cleaned. One girl was shot in the face with a shotgun, but apart from that the bodies had been treated with the same reverence as an undertaker. What can be said about the person who did this, apart from he is really sick?

Three and a half decades on, our intrepid sleuth sets out to solve this heinous series of crimes. There have of course been many suspects, far more than are revealed here, but although there is some intelligent speculation as to his identity, most of what we hear here is the usual psychobabble.

At the end of the programme we are given hope that the killer's identity will be revealed - even if he is long dead - but developments since have not been favourable. Was this the work of one man or two? Who knows, but why should Jack the Ripper grab all the limelight?
