'Shazam!' Poised for Second Weekend at #1, Topping 'Hellboy' & 'Little'
This weekend sees four new wide releases hitting theaters, though it will be WB's Shazam! enjoying a second go round as the weekend's number one film. As for the week's new releases, look for Hellboy and Little in what could be a tight race for runner-up position, while Laika's latest, Missing Link, vies for a spot in the top five and Aviron's After settles near the bottom of the top ten. After a solid start last weekend, which saw Shazam! exceed industry expectations, the superhero feature is likely to take a bit of a dive this weekend, though should remain in the top spot barring an over performance from a couple of the weekend's newcomers. We're currently anticipating a -58% dip for a three-day around $22.5 million and a ~$92 million domestic cume by the end of the weekend. Second place could be a tight race between Lionsgate's R-rated adaptation

Female-led workshop to deliver insights on stunt work

Jackie Murray.

Who says stunt work in films and television is predominantly a man’s world? Not the folks at Women in Film and TV Nsw, who are keen to blow up that idea by staging a female-led stunts and film workshop in Sydney next month.

The key presenters are stunt performer, first Ad and production manager Jackie Murray, who is a gymnastics and martial arts expert, and action director Maria Tran, who had a stunt attachment on Jackie Chan’s Bleeding Steel.

In addition, producer Yolandi Franken and costume designer Sarah Yates will provide tips on working with stunts from their respective departments and filmmaker Pearl Tan will host a panel discussion.

Covering such topics as managing stunts in filming, stunts and costume, safety and costs, the workshop will be held from 2-6 pm on Saturday April 13 at Harold Park Community Hall, 1 Dalgal Way, Glebe.

The event is designed for actors,

Netflix's The Silence Trailer: Kiernan Shipka Fights Flying Bat Monsters

Netflix has really stepped up the horror game over the past few years producing such neo hits as Mike Flanagan's adaptation of Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House and Suzanne Bier's adaptation of Josh Mallerman's Bird Box starring Sandra Bullock. And today we have the trailer and poster for their new possible hit The Silence starring Stanley Tucci and Kiernan Shipka. The film comes to us from director John R. Leonetti, who is perhaps best known for helming the original Annabelle flick along with the PG-13 teen horror movie Wish Upon starring Joey King, and let's not let him forget, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation starring Robin Shou and James Remar.

The Silence begins when the world is attacked by a flock of terrifying creatures who hunt their human prey by sound, which sounds like, you know, bats to me. Anyhow, when these bat monsters attack the world, 16-year

Charlie's Angels Reboot Gets a New Release Date

Charlie's Angels Reboot Gets a New Release Date
Looks like director Elizabeth Banks' reboot of Charlie's Angels starring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska has been pushed back, if only slightly. Following DC and Warner Bros. decision to move Wonder Woman 1984 from November 2019 to summer 2020, this reboot was at one point planned to fly into your local multiplex on November 1, 2019. That was because the original Drew Barrymore movie hit theaters over the first weekend in November 19 years ago. So, you know, legacy and whatnot. But today we have word that the powers that be behind the scenes have now sent the film over to a November 15, 2019 release date.

The release date shuffle is said to have come to light due to producer James Cameron and director Tim Miller's upcoming direct sequel to Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Terminator: Dark Fate landing on November 1st as well. Not only that, but the studio gave the

‘Rocketman’ Director Says Film Will Be ‘No Holds Barred’ Following Reports of Gay Censorship

‘Rocketman’ Director Says Film Will Be ‘No Holds Barred’ Following Reports of Gay Censorship
Following a report this week claiming that the upcoming Elton John biopic “Rocketman” is facing studio pressure to remove a 40-second “nude cuddle” featuring actors Taron Egerton and Richard Madden, director Dexter Fletcher has responded by assuring viewers that the film will be “no holds barred.”

The report, which comes from the Daily Mail, states that the move is being considered in order to secure a PG-13 rating rather than an R. Fletcher also took over directing duties on “Bohemian Rhapsody” after Bryan Singer was fired; in addition to being a similarly high-profile biopic of a gay rock singer, that film received criticism in some circles for playing down its subject’s sexuality.

“Seeing much speculation about Rocketman!! That’s good! It’s still unfinished so it’s nothing but rumors,” Fletcher wrote on Twitter. “It has and always will be the no holds barred, musical fantasy that Paramount and

‘Rocketman’ Will Be Rated R for Sex, Drugs, and Presumably Rock ‘n’ Roll
Not only is Taron Egerton providing his own voice to the fantasy-influenced Elton John biopic Rocketman, but the Kingsman star is also giving the world the valuable gift of an on-screen Elton who definitively, demonstrably fucks. THR reports the film landed an R-rating for sex scenes and drug use. Much scuttlebutt has been made about a reported love scene between Egerton's Elton John and Richard Madden's John Reid, a former music manager. The Daily Mail reported that director …

Taron Egerton Isn't a Household Name Yet - but Rocketman Might Change That
Elton John's musical biopic Rocketman is only a few months away from its theatrical release date, and if the first full-length trailer is anything to go by, it's going to be a wacky, wild ride. The film, which is produced by John himself, tracks the pop icon's rise from an ordinary youth to an international music sensation and showman. Although actor Taron Egerton, who plays John, has been around Hollywood for a few years now, he's still not quite an A-list name. Here's what you need to know about the young Welsh actor who earned John's personal approval for the role.

For the most part, Egerton's career has been in very British movies. After graduating with his acting degree from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, he snagged a couple of roles on British television. From there, his film career really kicked off in 2014, when he starred in two

Climax Review

Incendiary filmmaker Gaspar Noe takes us and a dance troupe on a journey through hell in Climax.

If you are familiar with the work of Argentinian-born filmmaker Gaspar Noe and thought he was mellowing out just ever so slightly with his last film, the sexually and emotionally graphic Love, forget about it. His new movie Climax is both an astonishing visual and technical achievement while also being a harrowing and horrifying descent into the depths of human degradation. It is also reminiscent in its unflinching gaze of his early films I Stand Alone (1998) and the still-controversial Irreversible (2002).

As with those, Climax is not really a film you “like” but an experience you endure, although the director never does anything, no matter how shocking or brutal, without justification or meaning. After a brief, enigmatic prologue in which a bloody woman writhes on a snow-covered landscape, we are introduced (via videotaped interviews

‘Kingsman’ Prequel Moves to Valentine’s Day 2020; Ford vs. Ferrari Movie Speeds to November

And the Great Film Slate Shuffle continues. THR reports that Matthew Vaughn's untilted Kingsman prequel has moved from its original November 15, 2019 premiere date to February 14, 2020. The film's vacant late-2019 spot will be filled by Logan director James Mangold's Ford v. Ferrari movie starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale, which was originally scheduled to open on June 28, 2019 but now has a tasty spot during Awards Season. Change is all pretty understandable, considering 20th Century Fox—which has housed the Kingsman franchise since the original, 2014's Kingsman: The Secret Service—is …

Saddle up, it's time for the best movie & TV trailers of the week! First up we have movie trailers, which features another very by-the-book biopic, ths time revolving around the Rocketman himself, Elton John. Paramount Marketing Shake-Up: David Sameth Out, Marc Weinstock Tapped to Lead (Exclusive)

  • Variety
David Sameth has been pushed out as part of a marketing shake-up at Paramount Pictures, sources tell Variety. Marc Weinstock, the former president of Annapurna, is in negotiations to join the studio in an unspecified role that will likely include overseeing parts of the marketing team, but could include other responsibilities. No deal is in place.

Paramount could not be reached for comment.

Sameth joined the studio just over a year ago after a stint as executive VP and head of theatrical marketing for Disney Animation Studios and Pixar. Sources say Sameth had alienated some staffers with his management style and had disappointed Paramount chief Jim Gianopulos with his campaigns for the Mark Wahlberg comedy “Instant Family” and J.J. Abrams’ thriller “Overlord.”

Paramount’s upcoming releases include a remake of “Pet Sematary,” the Elton John biopic “Rocketman,” and “Gemini Man,” a thriller the teams director Ang Lee with Will Smith.
