After breaking out in the epic and award-winning samurai series “Shōgun” and appearing in the Iraq War film “Warfare,” actor Cosmo Jarvis is having a serious moment. He’s now been tapped to play a younger version of Joseph Stalin, the infamous Soviet Union dicator, who oversaw the country with an ironfist before, during, and after World War II and helped the Allies defeat the Nazis (who attempted an ill-advised invasion of Russian territory).

Following the FX phenomenon, Shōgun,Cosmo Jarvis has found another historical project to tide him over. Variety revealed that the actor has been tapped to lead a new historical venture, Young Stalin. Jarvis is slated to portray the titular figure who would become one of Europe’s most feared dictators. The project will be adapted from the novel by Simon Sebag Montefiore with Géla Babluani set to direct who teased the project in the following statement:
“I’ve always been drawn to stories that live in the shadows, and there’s no shadow longer than Stalin’s. This isn’t a portrait of power — it’s a descent into the fire that forged it. With Cosmo, we have a lead actor who understands danger, charm and the fractures of identity.”
Young Stalin will focus on the early days of the Russian leader when he made a living as a bak robber before the Russian revolution.

Cosmo Jarvis, star of FX’s smash hit series “Shōgun,” will star as future Soviet leader Joseph Stalin in “Young Stalin.” Georgian-French helmer Géla Babluani has signed on to direct the period thriller that is being financed by Len Blavatnik‘s Access Entertainment, which backed Jonathan Glazer’s Oscar-winning Holocaust film “The Zone of Interest” and last year’s “Conclave.”
Based on the acclaimed bestseller by Simon Sebag Montefiore, “Young Stalin” charts the early days of the Soviet strongman when he was a bank-robbing gangster in pre-revolutionary Russia. Babluani and Sebag Montefiore wrote the screenplay for the film that is also being backed by AI Film and Monte Rosso Prods.
Set against the backdrop of Imperial Russia’s criminal underworld and revolutionary ferment, the film explores the making of the bloody dictator who would reshape the 20th century through terror, war and ideology — and the largest bank heist in Russian history,...

It's simply impossible to underestimate the success of FX's Shōgun. Becoming the Emmy-winning television season in current history and earning an almighty critical score of 99% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the stage has surely been set for a second season worthy of worldwide attention. However, as revealed back in April, that second season might be further away than fans would've liked, with filming confirmed to be beginning in January 2026. This makes the release of Season 2 an uncertain 2026 possibility, with 2027 now a likely year for more adventures with returning stars Hiroyuki Sanadaand Cosmo Jarvis. Sadly, the pair will not be joined by Anna Sawai's Lady Mariko, with the character dying during the first season's penultimate episode.
Now, in an interview with Radio Times, creator and showrunner Justin Marks has given another update on the state of development for Season 2, and it is yet another that will make some fans...

Sunday’s BAFTA TV Awards ceremony, hosted by Alan Cumming, saw Shōguntake home the award for Best International TV series, per Deadline. The FX show, which airs on Disney+ in the U.K., was up against The After Party, Colin from Accounts, Say Nothing, True Detective: Night Country, and You Are Not Alone: Fighting the Wolfpack.
Shōgun currently sits with a nearly perfect 99% Rotten Tomatoes critic score and stars Cosmo Jarvis, Anna Sawai, Tadanobu Asano, Hiroyuki Sanada, Yûki Kedôin, and Akiko Kobyashi. The first season of the FX series followed the arrival of John Blackthorne (Jarvis), the Anjin, on the shores of Japan. He then becomes involved in a power struggle that he can barely comprehend. He then winds up on Lord Toranga’s (Sanada) side, fighting against his political rivals. Sawai’s Lady Mariko serves as Blackstone’s translator.

With awards season all but done and dusted, Oscars. Golden Globes, SAGs, and BAFTAs all having been dutifully doled out over the past few months, this evening saw the BAFTA TV Awards 2025 — hosted by Avengers: Doomsday's Alan Cumming and held at London's Royal Festival Hall — take centre stage for a night of red carpet walking and shiny statue giving. And during a telecast in which the two most nominated shows — Netflix stalker thriller Baby Reindeer and ITV drama Mr Bates Vs The Post Office — took home one award apiece, the likes of Mr Loverman, Shōgun, and Blue Lights all scored big wins in major categories.
On the night, Baby Reindeer's sole win saw Jessica Gunning's turn as Richard Gadd's crazed stalker Martha recognised in the Supporting Actress race, while Mr Bates Vs Post Office, which was elsewhere nominated in both Lead acting categories, took home the coveted accolade for Limited Drama.

Mr Bates vs The Post Office and Mr Loverman were the big victors at the BAFTA TV Awards, meaning Baby Reindeer did not continue its dominant winning streak.
Hosted by The Traitors star Alan Cumming, the BAFTA ceremony took place in sparkling spring sunshine on the banks of the River Thames at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday.
The prizes were fairly evenly shared, but perhaps unsurprisingly, it was a notable night for Mr Bates vs The Post Office, the ITV series that dominated the UK ratings last year and fuelled a national conversation about injustices faced by innocent British postmasters, who were convicted of theft, fraud, and false accounting.
The series won Best Limited Drama, beating Baby Reindeer, which has been a darling of the awards season after cleaning up at the Emmys and Golden Globes. Jessica Gunning did, however, take home the prize for Best Supporting Actress for Baby Reindeer,...

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts presented its 2025 TV Awards at the Royal Festival Hall in London, with a wide spectrum of talent recognized across drama, comedy, factual, and children’s programming. Hosted by Alan Cumming, the event was broadcast on BBC One domestically and streamed on BritBox in the United States, continuing the Academy’s emphasis on broad accessibility for international audiences.
This year’s selections showcased both returning series and first-time contenders. Several winners have already seen cultural ripple effects across the UK media landscape. ITV’s Mr Bates vs the Post Office stood out not only for winning Limited Drama but also for earning the Special Award, recognizing ITV’s role in commissioning a project that helped catalyze national discussion. Based on a real-life miscarriage of justice, the series dramatized the experiences of sub-postmasters wrongly accused of theft and fraud, spurring public and political attention.

Shōgun scooped Best International series at the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday — and showrunner Justin Marks appeared to reference Donald Trump’s tariff plan in his acceptance speech.
Collecting the prize on stage at the Royal Festival Hall in London, Marks made explicit reference to the global nature of his FX and Disney+ series Shōgun.
“You have a bunch of Americans who got together with a bunch of Europeans and a bunch of Japanese and made a show in Canada, and now we are standing here on stage in England,” he said.
“That we are on stage is truly a testament to the spirit of grand international collaboration that our crew of 3,000 people espoused. It’s a spirit that is sadly disappearing from the world right now.” Marks added: “Thank you, BAFTA… for honoring this idea that good television is truly a borderless nation.”

Like most professionals working in Hollywood today, John Landgraf can’t predict what the industry will look like as it continues to contract with the decline of linear and rise of streaming. But he feels bullish that Hollywood will “still be here” at the end of this period of change, and those with the mindset to persist will be there as well.
The FX chairman delivered the equal parts optimistic and realistic sentiment about the future of entertainment during a panel conversation with Disney TV studios chief Eric Schrier, moderated by filmmaker Paris Barclay and hosted by the Hollywood Radio & Television Society. Barclay brought up the topic as he jokingly asked the TV executives for a glimmer of hope that the industry would “be Ok” amid layoffs and change permeating across the sector.
“And there’ll be room for all of us?” Barclay responded to Landgraf’s optimistic view.

With a collective ennui permeating the entertainment industry, it’d be understandable if many in attendance at a Thursday discussion with FX’s John Landgraf and Disney’s Eric Schrier might have been seeking at least one reason to feel optimistic. And they got it. Sort of.
Late in the Disney lot panel put on by Hollywood Radio & Television Society, the moderator, director Paris Barclay, finally turned from the topic at hand (“cultivating creative excellence”) to the one on everybody’s mind: industry shrinkage. “You’ve got to tell us [Hollywood] is going to be Ok,” Barclay jokingly implored the FX chairman.
“It’ll still be here,” Landgraf replied.
“And there’ll be a place for all of us?” Barclay countered.
“I don’t know about all of us,” he replied. “I can’t speak for everyone. Personally, my singular strategy is just keep getting better. Early in my career,...

The Peabody Awards revealed their 2025 honorees this morning, and the winner’s list included some expected titles and a surprise omission or two. “Shogun” and “Baby Reindeer” were a given; Julio Torres’ “Fantasmas” was not. Then again, the recent Peabody Awards committee also recognized the superior “Los Espookys,” so perhaps Torres has a fan or two among the voters.
Other Entertainment winners included PBS’ “Mr Bates vs The Post Office,” Steven Zaillian’s “Ripley,” FX’s “Say Nothing,” and Peacock’s “We Are Lady Parts.”
Entertainment nominees that didn’t make the final cut included (shockingly) the third season of “Hacks,” “Ramy Youssef: More Feelings,” “Alex Edelman: Just For Us,” and, in a “whew, cause it was bad,” the FX limited series “Clipped.”

While there was initially uncertainty about when the second season of the hit series Shōgun would begin production, an exciting new update has been released on the upcoming installment. A new report from Variety has revealed that the historical drama will begin filming Season 2 in January 2026 in Vancouver. Given the massive success and popularity of Shōgun, stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis will also be co-executive producers on the series. Sanada had already received a producer credit on Season 1, making his title of executive producer a well-deserved promotion.

Let there be no doubt: "Shōgun" was the television event of 2024. Most streaming aggregators ranked it as the most viewed series across all platforms for the year, while critics showered the adaptation of James Clavell's epic novel with praise ("Shōgun" season 1 holds a 100% Fresh rating with Rotten Tomatoes' Top Critics). The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences were equally enamored of the series, bestowing it with an unprecedented 18 Primetime Emmy Awards, the most ever dished out to a single show for one season. It took home nearly all of the top creative awards for a drama series as well, losing only Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series because it was nominated twice in both categories.
After enchanting critics and mainstream viewers alike, it should come as no surprise that "Shōgun" season 2 will easily be the most anticipated television event whenever it premieres.

The first season of Shōgun, a historical drama based on James Clavell's novel, was the most-watched series in the history of FX. And why not? It was great.
FX has decided to go ahead with a second season of Shōgun, which is dicey because the first covered the entirety of Clavell's novel. Deadline now reports that the new season will be set 10 years after the end of the first, when Japanese feudal Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) faced down his enemies in an attempt to unite Japan under one Shogunate. He had help from John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), an English ship pilot who washes ashore in Japan in the first episode. FX says the new season “continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined."

When we first learned last May that FX's feudal Japan-set epic Shōgun had scored a Season 2 and 3 renewal, it would be fair to say that our reaction was excitement and trepidation in equal measure. Excitement because Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks' sweeping, lavish treatment of James Clavell's novel gave us the best TV show of 2024; trepidation because Shōgun was very much pitched and designed as a limited series, with its finale taking us to the end of Clavell's book. Today however, announcing a January 2026 start date for production on Season 2, FX and Disney+ have given us a little more information on what's next for the Shōgunverse.
First thing's first, Kondo and Marks are back to helm and write Shōgun Season 2, and they will be joined by stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis, who will reprise their roles as Lord Yoshii Toranaga and John Blackthorne respectively on the show's sophomore outing.

Fans of FX’s Shogun are still reeling from the epic first season, in which Hiroyuki Sanada’s Lord Yoshii Toranaga stole the show with his cunning and quiet strength. Based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel, the series brought 17th-century Japan to life, earning 25 Emmy nominations, 18 wins, and a massive global following.
Season 2, heading for production, looms with a confirmed “10-year time skip,” sparking speculation about Toranaga’s fate. At 65, Sanada, who follows the beat of his real-life counterpart, Tokugawa Ieyasu (even the age), is not getting younger, and historical clues align with a logical yet heartbreaking possibility: an honorable ending for Toranaga rather than stretching his story into a potential Season 3.

Shōgun season 2 is heading into production in early 2026 – and we have a few more details on the new season to share.
Shōgun was one of 2024’s best TV shows, and news of its renewal for another season quickly followed that year’s finale. The problem? Season 1 had already adapted all of James Clavell’s 1975 novel.
That didn’t stop showrunners Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks from pursuing a completely original new season, however, and while it’s still some time away, Shōgun season 2 is steadily moving forward. The writers’ room has now been set up, and the new season will go into production in January 2026 in Vancouver, which will be transformed into 17th century Japan.
The new season will take place ten years after the events of the first season, which ended with Lord Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) winning the war against Ishido and the revelation that Toranaga had purposefully burned...

Shōgun is no longer a limited series. Almost a year after FX launched talks with the estate of Shōgun author James Clavell to develop two additional seasons, the network has officially announced a second season of the Emmy-winning historical drama.
Per TVLine, physical production is scheduled to begin on Shōgun Season 2 in January 2026 in Vancouver, Canada. Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis will return to star as Lord Toranaga and John Blackthorne, in addition to serving as executive producer and co-executive producer, respectively. Shōgun, an adaptation of Clavell’s best-selling 1975 novel of the same name, was originally billed as a limited series when it debuted last year. However, the show's critical acclaim led to FX beginning talks for two more seasons, which in turn allowed it to compete in the drama series categories at the Emmys. After taking home a record 18 Emmys, the anticipation for more Shōgun could not be higher.

The pieces are coming into place on the upcoming second season of FX’s Emmy-winning drama series Shōgun, which will begin filming in January. Cosmo Jarvis has closed a deal to reprise his role as English pilot John Blackthorne, joining Hiroyuki Sanada, whose pact last May to return as Lord Yoshii Toranaga paved the way to Shogun‘s tentative renewal for a second and likely third season after being originally conceived as a limited series. Sanada, a producer on the original installment, has been upped to executive producer for Season 2; Jarvis is joining the series’ producing ranks as co-executive producer.
FX has revealed more details about the premise of the second season. It “will be “a wholly original new chapter to the first season,” which was an adaptation of James Clavell’s bestselling novel, the network said.

When ancient epics meet modern technology, the result is nothing short of cinematic magic. Director Nitesh Tiwari‘s ambitious adaptation of the Ramayana is a testament to this fusion, leveraging the cutting-edge capabilities of Vicon’s Valkyrie motion capture system to breathe new life into this timeless tale.
A mythological marvel with a mega budget
The Ramayana project isn’t just a film; it’s a cinematic endeavor of epic proportions. With a budget of ₹835 crore dedicated solely to the first installment, the film surpasses previous high-budget Indian films like Rrr and Brahmastra. This substantial investment underscores the creators’ commitment to delivering a visually spectacular and emotionally resonant retelling of the ancient epic.
The production involves an extensive post-production phase, reportedly spanning 600 days, to ensure the highest quality in visual effects and storytelling. Such dedication to craftsmanship reflects the ambition to set new benchmarks in Indian filmmaking.

There used to be a time when, wherever you worked, television could send people in droves to the water cooler to talk about the latest episode of a buzzworthy series that everyone tuned in to.
These series earned the title of “water cooler shows” because you could guarantee that everyone would be talking about everything that transpired the following day.
I still remember the Golden Era of American Idol when my entire family would race home just in time to see specific performances, participate in Facebook groups, and watch parties devoted to Scandal every week.

Shows like Succession and Game of Thrones would set the internet ablaze faithfully during and after every single installment until their ends.
Maybe we don’t gather around a water cooler or unpack a series during lunch breaks with our colleagues. However, we still live-tweet episodes on social media platforms and discussion boards,...

Exclusive: Following her star-making performance in the FX series Shōgun, Anna Sawai looks to have found her big follow-up. Sources tell Deadline that the Emmy winner is set to co-star in Amazon MGM Studios’ How to Rob a Bank, from director David Leitch, Imagine Entertainment and 87North Productions. Sawai joins previously announced stars Nicholas Hoult and Pete Davidson, and sources say the film will be released in theaters.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but given Leitch’s track record of delivering on big thrills and fun set pieces in films like Bullet Train, Deadpool 2 and most recently The Fall Guy, expect something similar in scope.
87North’s Kelly McCormick and Leitch will produce alongside Imagine’s Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody and Allan Mandelbaum. Mark Bianculli wrote the script and will executive produce.
Sawai took the town by storm last year following her Emmy-winning performance in Shogun.

A Ready or Not sequel was confirmed earlier this year, and now we're starting to get more details about the upcoming film from Radio Silence, which will see the return of star Samara Weaving.
Weaving was the "final girl" from the 2019 movie. Her character, Grace, married into the Le Domas family, unaware of the twisted game they play on every family member's wedding day. Grace picks "Hide-and-Seek," leading her to run from the family as they try to murder her to fulfill their part of a generational curse.
Earlier this week, Searchlight Pictures shared an endearing promotional video announcing new cast members and more.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come
Even before the sequel was officially announced, fans hoped it would be subtitled "Here I Come." It's similar to Happy Death Day 2U and the upcoming Now You See Me: Now You Don't. Who doesn't love a clever title...

Viewers of The Last of Us are still wiping away their tears after witnessing a the death of Pedro Pascal's Joel during the April 20 episode. Might all of the extra buzz from that emotional moment help Pascal win an Emmy Award? It's certainly possible. Many performers have won statuettes for their impactful swan songs, and more still have been nominated. With the help of Gold Derby's forum posters, we have compiled a list of 25 performers since 2000 who received Emmy attention after being killed off.
Note that some of the contenders below submitted their death episode for Emmy consideration (such as The White Lotus' Jennifer Coolidge picking "Arrivederci"), while others chose different episodes from the seasons in which they perished (like Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston going with...
