Sarajevo Film Review: ‘Love 1. Dog’

Sarajevo Film Review: ‘Love 1. Dog’
When an isolated forest ranger rescues a mysterious young woman he finds beaten and unconscious, his long-suppressed emotions surge out of control in Romanian multi-hyphenate Florin Şerban’s third feature “Love 1. Dog.” Set in some indeterminate time during the 20th century, this enigmatic but engrossing drama may look completely different from Şerban’s 2010 Berlinale prize-winner, “If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle,” or his 2015 sophomore outing, “Box,” but like these films, “Love 1” has at its core a battle of wills between a male and a female. Further festival travel is likely, with potential longer shelf life as the first of an announced trilogy.

Middle-aged Simion lives rough in a remote cabin built by his grandfather, high on a pine-forested mountain. His only companions are a fierce shepherd-mix dog that he has never bothered to name and a donkey to haul fuel for his fire. As he patrols the woods with his rifle,

If there are Oscars for superhero films, how about these unsung heroes? [Poll]

If there are Oscars for superhero films, how about these unsung heroes? [Poll]
Somehow, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences decided that a huge box-office wasn’t reward enough for blockbusters and created a Best Popular Film category, presumably to draw higher ratings and attract a younger demo to their telecast. Since the members seem to be in the mood to accept change, why stop there? Let’s add four more categories that will honor those behind-the-scenes talents who rarely get their due.

Here are my suggestions.

SEETom O’Neil on Oscars shame: Omg, who wants to win Best Unpopular Picture?

1. Best Motion-Capture Performance

Ever since Andy Serkis assumed the identity of that nasty ring-coveting gremlin known as Gollum in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, there’s been a push to recognize those who put dots all over their bodies so digital cameras can capture their movements while never being seen on the screen. Serkis is considered the master of the art,

Thomas Mann Joins Disney’s Live-Action ‘Lady and the Tramp’ (Exclusive)
Thomas Mann is set to join Disney’s live-action adaptation of “Lady and the Tramp” in the role of Lady’s human owner, Jim Dear.

Tessa Thompson is on board to play Lady and Justin Theroux will voice the Tramp. Kiersey Clemons is also set to play Mann’s wife, Darling.

The majority of the cast will play CGI characters, similar to Disney’s wildly successful adaptations of “Beauty and the Beast” and “Jungle Book,” though Mann and Clemons’ characters will be live-action roles. “Lady and the Tramp” tells the story of an American Cocker Spaniel named Lady who lives with an upper-middle-class family, but is set astray when the family has a baby. Lady ends up meeting a mongrel known as the Tramp on the streets. They embark on a romantic journey and eventually fall in love.

Everybody loves a bad boy (or girl) and our favorite television heroes and heroines are no exception. The young children who loved Beauty and the Beast as have grown up, but we still love the idea of finding the humanity within the monster. Even when the title of monster isn't quite so metaphorical.

So when we see a supernatural hottie with a dark side and a heart of gold, we can't help but fall in love with the monster as well as the fictional character who brings that heart to the surface.

So, here are a few of the scary good monster romances that have made us swoon and sigh.

1. Elena and Damon/Stefan - The Vampire Diaries Vampire romances are some of the most classic forms of monster romance on television. And both Damon as well as Stefan fit the bill of monstrous at one point or another throughout the show.

Could Steve Bannon’s New Trump Movie Win That New Oscar Category?

Since being booted from the White House and pushed out of Breitbart, Steve Bannon has devoted his time to boosting candidates like Roy Moore and, apparently, producing a new film, Trump @ War. President Trump’s former chief strategist debuted the trailer for his forthcoming “documentary” on Axios Thursday morning.

The clip features cameos from fellow ex-campaign manager Corey Lewandowksi, ex-White House aide Sebastian Gorka, Fox NewsPete Hegseth and ex-Breitbart London editor Raheem Kassam, as well as footage of Antifa violence spliced with sound bites from Democrats like Tim Kaine,

New Aladdin Song Details Revealed for Disney's Live-Action Remake

We have some new details on the songs that have been added to Disney's live-action Aladdin. It was revealed earlier this year that the Oscar-winning songwriting duo behind La La Land and The Greatest Showman, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, were on board to create two new songs for the upcoming reimagining of Aladdin. Now, we finally have word on what those songs are going to be, in addition to another pretty interesting tidbit that may delight or frustrate fans of the original animated classic.

Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are working with Oscar-winning legend Alan Menken, who composed the music for the original animated Aladdin, on these new songs. In a new interview, the duo reveal that they worked with Menken to create a new solo song for Jasmine, who is being played by Power Rangers star Naomi Scott in the movie. Here's what they had to say about it.

Disney Hit With Backlash For Casting Straight Actor In Gay Role In Jungle Cruise

Disney’s now somewhat unfortunately named Jungle Cruise has hit the rocks right out of the gate. The reason? Casting a straight actor and comedian in a role described by The Sun as “hugely effete, very camp and very funny.” Word is that this individual is going to be Disney’s first openly gay character, which is news to me as I distinctly remember them saying the exact same thing about LeFou in last year’s live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.

Casting a straight actor in a prominently gay role has, entirely foreseeably, kicked up an enormous stink online. Commentators have quite reasonably pointed out that there are a number of talented Lgbtq actors in Hollywood that are hungry for roles and casting a straight actor in the part runs the risk of being offensive. Particularly as the role’s apparently very camp.

There was an instant backlash against that backlash,

Disney’s Live-Action Aladdin Will Add Two New Songs To The Soundtrack

The soundtrack of a Disney animated film is one of its most important aspects, though that’s something that the previous live-action remakes of these movies have approached differently. The Jungle Book and Cinderella decided to scale back on the singing and dancing, while Beauty and the Beast embraced the musical side of things, even adding in a few new songs.

Now, the upcoming revamp of Aladdin seems to be taking the Beast route. While talking to Variety, songwriters Benji Pasek and Justin Paul confirmed that they’ve penned two completely new songs for the reboot of the Arabian Nights-inspired tale, alongside original composer Alan Menken.

First off, Naomi Scott’s Princess Jasmine will get her own song this time. “We got to write a new song for Jasmine,” Paul said. “Alan wrote a beautiful piece of music and [Scott] is incredible.” What’s more, Mena Massoud’s Aladdin and

Gay Jungle Cruise Character Creates Instant Backlash Against Disney

Disney's Jungle Cruise is currently in production and it looks like the movie is going to be making some history, as Jack Whitehall is set to play the first openly gay character in a live-action movie from the studio. However, Whitehall's casting and alleged characterization has already caused some backlash and controversy. Though, there are pretty clear arguments forming on both sides. In any case, this isn't perhaps the home run, progressive move that Disney was hoping for.

Jack Whitehall is playing Emily Blunt's brother in Jungle Cruise alongside Dwayne Johnson in the movie based on the popular theme park attraction. The movie will be set in the 19th century, at a time when it was far less acceptable to be gay. In a new report, it's been revealed that Whitehall will be gay and that he will make it very clear he has no interest in women.
