Storyline

Childhood best friends Maggie Caruso (Lennon Parham, "Best Friends Forever") and Emma Crawford (Jessica St. Clair, "Best Friends Forever") have shared countless adventures growing up together in the charming town of Pinebrook, CT. Now, Maggie and Emma are in store for one of their biggest adventures-raising a baby. When Maggie discovers that her husband is having an online affair with a muscular German woman, Emma gives up her burgeoning business career in China to stay in their hometown and help Maggie raise her baby. Meanwhile, as Maggie prepares for the birth of her first child and the fallout of her marriage ending, Emma must confront the past that she abruptly left behind thirteen years ago -- her first love and local cop Mark, her prim-and-proper mother and a small town that she's never felt comfortable in. Trivia

Jessica St. Clair was diagnosed with stage 2b estrogen positive breast cancer in September 2015 after finding a marble-sized lump in her breast. St. Clair subsequently underwent a mastectomy before then undergoing 16 rounds of chemotherapy which wrapped in April 2016. St. Clair goes onto detail the various "chemo hacks" she used to reduce the side effects, and to help hide the illness from her 2-year-old daughter, with help from her husband, playwright and poet Dan O'Brien, and her Playing House co-creator, co-star and "comedy wife" Lennon Parham. In the midst of her 12 weeks of radiation, St. Clair and Parham returned to work on the upcoming third season of USA Network's Playing House, in which St. Clair's character Emma will also battle breast cancer and the exact treatment St. Clair underwent. best friends forever
24 November 2018 | by SnoopyStyleSee all my reviews

Emma Crawford (Jessica St. Clair) returns to her hometown of Pinebrook, Connecticut to attend her best friend Maggie Caruso (Lennon Parham)'s baby shower. When Maggie discovers her husband Bruce had been cheating with an online cam girl, Emma decides to quit her high power job to care for Maggie and her pending baby. Emma's first love Mark Rodriguez (Keegan-Michael Key) is married to "Bird Bones" Tina. Zach Harper (Zach Woods) is Maggie's weird younger brother.

Jessica and Lennon have a simple best friends chemistry from their real life relationship. They are also good comedy creators. They do have to be careful not to make it inside jokes. That's not the case here. Keegan-Michael Key adds another great character. He's both funny and a great boyfriend material. Sadly, it got cancelled after three short seasons. It has more room to grow. I thought the cancer story was going to turn into something deeper and darker although maybe it's not the gals' style. They are more lighter and quirkier.
