Cell phones, televisions, and communication systems begin not working on the first day Malorie enters the home, but the car's GPS works days later.
In reality, cell phones have a 40 mile range that require a local tower, and televisions require either a physical landline or a local broadcast tower, either of which could lose power/be turned off. GPS uses satellites 12,000 miles above the earth, sending radio waves that cover the planet- that's why standalone GPS devices worked before the invention of smartphones, and the car GPS still worked. The GPS satellites would need continuous control ( which is currently done from either Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado, or Vandenberg AFB in California ) ; but we can presume it would be maintained as a priority, by any working remnant of the US Air Force.
