Eyes have it

Another entertaining episode of the continuing adventures of crime reporter Dicte. In this episode she's on hand to witness detective Wagner and his female colleague at a remote spot, uncovering a dead body with both eyes removed. The dead man is a young, good-looking known homosexual, working for a big company with a high-powered executive at its head, who it turns out leads a triple life of happy family man and successful boss, adventurous cruiser for young good-looking men and a trader in human parts, in particular corneas, hence the disfigurement of the youth's body.

In the background, Dicte's complicated private life takes on a couple of new twists as one of her two best friends (the nurse), has a one night stand with her ex-husband while a new, young prison informant provides a shocking link to her own past. In between, the simmering romance between Wagner and Dicte's other best friend, new mother Ida, ticks along in the background, while Dicte's burgeoning relationship with the paper's maverick photographer positively burgeons to overflowing in the final scene.

With some acerbic humour along the way, notably Wagner's naive outlook towards the gay community, Dicte's reaction to her friend's fling with her ex and particularly the funeral and aftermath of her friend's hippy-chick mother, supposedly an ex-lover of Keith Richards and later involving hash cookies for the boys at her office, this was a pleasing mix of humour and drama, with an exciting climax, in more ways than one.

The main story was gripping and suspenseful which for me is always the most important thing while the background character development continued apace but still naturally and unobtrusively.

A good episode of a pretty good series.
