Six close friends meet each week for a game night involving board games, charades and pop culture trivia quizzes. Being the most competitive of the bunch, Max and his wife Annie, who seem to be a perfect match in every way, usually win every time. However, their marriage is on rocky ground as Annie fears that Max doesn't want to have children. When Max's shady brother Brooks reappears after a long mysterious absence and suggests that they have their next gathering at his place, no one expects that their weekly game night is about to go to the next level as Brooks organizes a full blown murder mystery party complete with actors as criminals and cops for them. However, when Brooks is violently kidnapped in front of everyone, it turns out that the game is all too real. Max is shot and stabbed in the forearm early in the film, yet only three months later his wounds have completely healed with no bandages or scars. There's no chance wounds this severe would heal that quickly. See more »
This movie was a hilarious surprise. They took an ensemble cast that took clever writing and made it even funnier - and not just chuckle or think "that was a good joke" and smile - but actually laugh out loud funny. Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams had awesome chemistry and were hilarious as a couple. In fact, all of the couples worked well together and the relationships were all unique in their comedy dynamics.
Another reviewer on here compares this to *shudder* Hot Tub Time Machine 2, and says this was full of pop culture references. All I can say to that is they must have seen a different movie or is WAY out of touch (unless a Fight Club reference is still considered pop culture). This movie's strengths come from the original jokes and spot-on delivery, and I can't remember once laughing during Hot Tub Time Machine 2, but this movie made my stomach hurt.
