Baby love
25 August 2016 | by LejinkSee all my reviews

Another enjoyable episode in this Danish series centring on the life and loves of small- town reporter Dicte, taking in family, friends, work colleagues and inevitably it seems, the police. Because it seems our intrepid heroine just can't help stumbling upon juicy crime stories, in fact this tale gets underway when she's interrupted at an outdoor lunch by the river when she hauls in a bucket coincidentally floating by, containing an abandoned baby, which has sadly died on the journey.

The mystery for Dicte to solve is who stole the baby which naturally again sees her JB initial conflict but later concert with apparently the only detective in town, David Tennant lookalike, Detective Wagner. As before, as much time is spent in shading in the characters of background participants like her two girl-friends, her estranged husband, 18 year old daughter, the office photographer with a Lothario lifestyle just to name the most prominent.

Although reliant too much on coincidence, the story here was well written, although it was a stretch to accept that Wagner felt the need to put Dicte under hypnotherapy to find out how a mother could give up her new-born child. It was all well enough wrapped up with plenty of little plot-lines awaiting development, particularly Wagner's burgeoning relationship with new mother Ida-Marie, especially as she's just split from her errant husband.

I like Dicte's pithy character, the stories neatly mix human interest with criminal investigation so that I'll have no problem watching the rest of the shows in the series.
