Roughnecks, brawlers, and thugs descend on Yellowknife to compete in the annual Northern Tough Guy Competition. Among them is Jim McAllister, who desperately needs quick cash to keep his diamond claim afloat. Bobby agrees to be his corner man and soon learns that the real money is in the side bets. Chief among the betters is Ronnie Dearman, who just happens to be backing the hands-down favorite - Alvin "The Hammer" Hammarstrom. Bobby shocks everyone when he bets Jim's diamond claim, against Dearman's twenty-grand. Meanwhile, the Arctic Air crew meets its newest pilot - Blake's old friend, Randy - an experienced pilot with an impressive resume. But not long into a routine cargo run, Blake senses that Randy isn't the crack pilot he once was and that his first flight might be their last.
