John Alexander trilogy begins with a slow moving story of vendetta and revenge
The first of a series of three films about a crime lord in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Steven Seagal plays John Alexander, torn between his legacy as a dangerous criminal and his desire to leave the life of crime that built his empire. Faced with a challenge to his power, Alexander must rely on his assassin protege, who he'd cast out in a botched assassination of a prisoner.
The film is a battle between under-bosses and crime lords, a violent grindhouse crime action drama.
The first thing to say is it is a poor script and dialogue and Keoni Waxman struggles to make the most of it. Seagal plays his character with as much machismo as ever and his effort is tonally inconsistent. Bren Foster's kung fu expertise is entertaining enough, and there is good support from crime supremos Ving Rhames and Danny Trejo to complete the implied billing of 'badass trio'. All in all, a disappointing offering, slow and uninspiring given the stars participating.
