The exterior of the police station is actually one of the most historic buildings in all of Aberystwyth. Opened in 1866 as the "Queen's Hotel", the building was in constant use until the Royal Air Force commandeered the building during WW2. Following the war, the local government purchased the building and used it for a variety of public services including converting the hotel's majestic ballroom into criminal courts that were in use through 2012, even as most of the other agencies, including the police had relocated to their new facility by mid 2009. In December 2013 the council advertised the unoccupied building for sale at £1million, however in June 2014 the council chose to put the building up for public auction. The building was subsequently sold for £530,000 with plans to be converted into a spa hotel with luxury flats for rent as well. See more
