‘The Walking Dead’ Video Games: An Oral History

‘The Walking Dead’ Video Games: An Oral History
The Walking Dead” comic book’s enduring popularity gave birth not just to two television shows and an eclectic mix of merchandise, but its world also laid the groundwork for more than a dozen video games. Four of those games are still in development. All of them remain in the canon of the comic’s over-arching world, none of them retell any of the stories told across 15 years in the nearly 200 books.

Where AMC’s “The Walking Dead” brings the original story of the comics to television — albeit a sometimes radically altered version of it — and “Fear the Walking Dead” exists within the realm only of television, the video games all stand apart, differing from the comic’s story and, mostly, each other’s.

How that’s done, how four different groups of developers managed to tip toe their way around not just the mainline of the comics, but also each other’s stories,

Skybound will Finish Remaining Episodes of Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season

  • DailyDead
The sudden closure of Telltale Games came as a surprise to both fan and employees of Telltale alike. This affected not games that they were in the early stages of development on, like Stranger Things, but The Walking Dead: The Final Season, which already had its first episode released. The status of the game had been in limbo, but we had a feeling that the final episodes were going to be completed, and Robert Kirkman made the announcement at New York Comic Con yesterday: Skybound will complete and release the remaining episodes.

Per, Skybound's TheWalkingDead.com: "This didn’t just affect us as partners—we were among those fans. Since Telltale’s closure notice, we’ve been spending long hours figuring out if we could help complete this game. And as of today, we are Very pleased to announce that we are taking on the job of finishing The Walking

The final episodes for Telltale Games “The Walking Dead: The Final Season” will be released afterall, with Skybound taking over development and publishing of the game, “Walking Dead” creator and Skybound founder Robert Kirkman announced Saturday. Skybound also hopes to keep the original Telltale development team intact so they can be the ones to finish the season.

Skybound Games will work with members of the original Telltale team to finish the story, though nothing has yet been finalized, a spokesperson told Variety. Skybound never used in-house developers on its games before.

“We’ve successfully negotiated with Telltale Games for our company Skybound to come in and see Season 4 of the Telltale game to completion,” Kirkman told an audience at New York Comic-Con Saturday night. “We can’t lose Andrew Lincoln and Clementine in the same year.”

The Walking Dead: Robert Kirkman's Skybound Will Finish Telltale Game

Matthew Byrd Alec Bojalad Oct 6, 2018

Robert Kirkman's Skybound will be taking over production on Telltale's The Walking Dead: The Final Season

Telltale's The Walking Dead: The Final Season lives!

The Walking Dead comic creator and show producer Robert Kirkman announced during his appearance at New York Comic Con 2018 that his imprint, Skybound, will "take ownership" of the game.

The future of Telltale's The Walking Dead: The Final Season seemed bleak when Telltale Games massively cut staff and put all game production on hold, effectively signaling the end of the studio. It was horrific timing to say the least, first and foremost for Telltale's hastily laid off 250 employees, and secondly for fans of the studio's excellent The Walking Dead series hoping to see the conclusion to Clementine's story.

Kirkman clearly thought it was bad timing too. Now Skybound has full control of the series and will be working with

Fear/The Walking Dead Crossover In Season 9 Is A Possibility

For years, The Walking Dead and its spinoff Fear The Walking Dead were kept separate, until the season 4 premiere of the latter show finally crossed over with its parent in a major way. Alongside cameos from Rick Grimes and Carol, Lennie JamesMorgan Jones moved over to Fear to join the cast as a new regular.

This has opened the door for more crossovers in subsequent seasons and seeing as Twd characters showed up on Fear last time, could Fear characters appear in the upcoming ninth season of Twd to return the favor? This was the burning question one fan put forward in this week’s official Walking Dead mailbag. The reply? Skybound’s Johnny O’Dell revealed that it’s “possible,” saying:

It’s not impossible. After all, Morgan’s mission in the back half of Season 4 has been to travel back to Alexandria by any means necessary. As

Skybound’s GammaRay Is Fandom Content for the Thinking Fan, David Alpert Says

  • Variety
Skybound Entertainment is officially launching GammaRay, a pop-culture video content brand targeted at highbrow fans of movies, TV, comics and games.

That’s according to David Alpert, one of Skybound’s partners along with Robert Kirkman and Jon Goldman, who is leading GammaRay as CEO. “It’s hard to find a place for intellectual discussion that’s not driven by lowest-common-denominator editorial,” Alpert said.

While it’s housed at Skybound, GammaRay is backed by three other investment partners: David Ellison’s Skydance Media, Allen DeBevoise’s Third Wave Ventures and C Ventures, a Vc firm co-founded by entrepreneur Adrian Cheng and veteran investor Clive Ng. Alpert declined to disclose how much funding GammaRay has raised.

The concept for GammaRay, which had been brewing at Skybound for some time, is to provide a fan-focused brand “from the perspective of celebrating how artists make things,” Alpert said. “It’s the discussion in

How ‘Overkill’s The Walking Dead’ Captures the ‘Essence’ of the Comics

How ‘Overkill’s The Walking Dead’ Captures the ‘Essence’ of the Comics
Overkill Software hosted a discussion with Robert Kirkman for the upcoming “Overkill’s The Walking Dead,” detailing a new in-game location, at San Diego Comic-Con last month.

Robert Kirkman is the original creator of “The Walking Dead” comic book series which inspired the hit television show and a multitude of video games.

Sean Mackiewicz, editor-in-chief of Skybound, and Almir Listo, producer of the game, were also part of the discussion.

They also showed off what Listo deemed “one of the creepier parts of the game,” the Brooklyn metro, of which only a “glimpse” was shown during E3 in June.

The Brooklyn metro setting is one the playable characters are forced to escape into, on the run from a “bigger threat.”

The subway system is a more claustrophobic environment, adding to the horror aspect and intensity of the game.

Listo noted that some of the comments he has heard regarding the

The Walking Dead Season 9 Will Give Enid A Bigger Role

It looks like The Walking Dead is going to lose two of its major, long running characters. Shortly after the reveal that Lauren Cohan would be leaving the AMC zombie drama, an even bigger shock came our way as we learned that star Andrew Lincoln is also bowing out of the show in season 9. With these two protagonists looking to make an exit, we imagine the supporting cast of Twd will now find themselves with increased roles.

One such character who that’ll be the case with is Enid, as played by Katelyn Nacon. The latest weekly Walking Dead mailbag from Skybound features a fan asking if Enid will get more to do in season 9. Insider Johnny O’Dell replied in the affirmative, revealing she’ll join with the main group again after being sidelined to other communities in the previous year.

“You know what? Yes, Enid actually will have
