Storyline

Barney Thomson is a sad sack of a man. He identifies himself mostly as a barber, Hendersons Barbers in a working class neighborhood of Glasgow where he's worked for twenty years. More introspective than extroverted which does not work well for the business, he has fewer and fewer customers, and as such his current boss, Wullie Henderson, son of the retired owner James Henderson who originally hired him, is moving him further and further away from the spotlight of the shop. Meanwhile, five men so far have been killed by who the general public is nicknaming the Body Parts Killer as the murderer sends through the post body parts of the victims to the victims' loved ones. The lead investigator, DI Holdall, assisted by DI Callum MacPherson, is no closer now to discovering the Body Parts Killer's identity than when the murders started two months ago. Trivia

Near the beginning of the film, Barney asks the three men in the barbers why "none of you want your hair to get cut...by me?" When he says "By me?" he flourishes his hands similar to Robert Carlyle's character of Rumpelstiltskin from Once Upon a Time (2011). See more »

Robert Carlyle is Barney Thomson, a 50 something loner and mama's boy who works as a barber in Glasgow. His mother is played by Emma Thompson, who is magnificent as a hard drinking, chain smoking compulsive gambler. Barney drafts his mom to help him after he accidentally kills his boss and requires her assistance in hiding the body. What follows is an hilarious series of bizarre events, including the pursuit by a foul mouthed detective, Hold all(Ray Winestone). My only criticism is that as an American, I had trouble at times with the heavy Scottish accents. I would recommend subtitles for any viewers not from Scotland. The look of the film is a cross breeding of Quentin Tarrantino and the Coen brothers, most especially Fargo. A solid 7.5/10.
