Sex & Nudity

Violence & Gore

  • Constant threat of military action throughout.

  • One use of "fuck", other very minor profanities like "bastard" and "damn".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The director has chosen to gradually reveal the aliens, so we get different ideas about what they really look like. In the initial sighting, two emerge slowly from the mist -- they have long legs that make them look like spiders.
  • A subplot involves the death of a child from an incurable disease.
  • The entire film carries a strong tension regarding the question of the aliens' purpose; an air of potential danger. It is portrayed in a realistic way, using news broadcasts, for example. Young children may require clarification that they are viewing fiction.
