- TriviaAfter reading the script for the film, Mark Hamill told writer/director Rian Johnson, "I pretty much fundamentally disagree with every choice you've made for this character [Luke Skywalker]. Now having said that, I have gotten it off my chest, and my job now is to take what you've created and do my best to realize your vision." Despite the divisive response among audiences Cinemascore audiences rated it with the same score as The Force Awakens and more positively than Rise of Skywalker. While critics gave it a fresh aproval agregate score on both, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. Hamill later said in a statement that he had maintained respect for Johnson as well as Episode VII and IX director J.J. Abrams (although he only follows Rian Johnson on Twitter). Daisy Ridley and John Boyega have both talked about in interviews how their initial reaction after reading the script for the first time was trying to get in contact with Johnson as soon as possible because they couldn't wrap their head around the direction he was going. Boyega later said that his character was treated better on the Episode IX: Duel of the Fates unmade script by Collin Trevorow that J.J. Abrams discarded, due to it giving him a plotline were Finn led a stormtrooper mutiny like the one on a deleted scene that Rian Johnson filmed for The Last Jedi, were Finn makes stormtroopers revolt against Captain Phasma. Ridley stated Jhonson shot what he wrote while Abrams was constantly changing the script, Abrams co-writter Chris Terrio said the Rise of Skywalker script was rewritten every day.
- GoofsWhen Poe gets permission to leave the bridge and runs towards the X-Wing bay, several pilots on the bridge follow him, including the alien C'ai Threnalli. However, immediately after we see C'ai run out of frame, there is a reaction shot of Finn with C'ai still standing at a console in the background.
- Quotes
Luke Skywalker: [Yoda appears as a ghost] Master Yoda.
Yoda: Young Skywalker.
Luke Skywalker: I'm ending all of this. The tree, the texts, the Jedi. I'm going to burn it all down.
Yoda: [Yoda summons lightning to burn down the tree and the Jedi texts. He laughs] Ah, Skywalker. Missed you, have I.
Luke Skywalker: So it is time for the Jedi Order to end.
Yoda: Time it is for you to look past a pile of old books, hmm?
Luke Skywalker: The sacred Jedi texts?
Yoda: Oh, read them, have you? Page-turners they were not. Yes, yes, yes. Wisdom they held, but that library contained nothing that the girl Rey does not already possess. Skywalker, still looking to the horizon. Never here, now, hmm? The need in front of your nose.
Luke Skywalker: I was weak. Unwise.
Yoda: Lost Ben Solo you did. Lose Rey we must not.
Luke Skywalker: I can't be what she needs me to be.
Yoda: Heeded my words not, did you? Pass on what you have learned. Strength. Mastery. But weakness, folly, failure also. Yes, failure most of all. The greatest teacher, failure is. Luke, we are what they grow beyond. That is the true burden of all masters.
