Storyline

Tears of the Buddha: Spirituality and Emotions explores the spiritual path through the lens of emotion. Director Joel Lesko interviews modern Buddhistic teachers to find out how their teachings apply in daily life - are emotions an impediment to spiritual growth? What about so-called unspiritual emotions like anger and hate? Do emotions trap a seeker in the personal self? Tears is a serious look at an area of life that is often confusing and problematic for people in spiritual practices. Rather than another documentary about a teacher's enlightenment or awakening, Tears of the Buddha questions age-old teachings about emotions and leads to an important conversation about individual selfhood - is it real or is it an illusion? Lesko shares his own experiences and interviews leading teachers including Gangaji, Eli-Jaxon-Bear, Jeff Foster, Daniel Barron, and others. Written by Anonymous

A Must See for any person seeking...
8 February 2015 | by marceallenSee all my reviews

How about putting a dozen gurus on the hot-seat... ask them real questions... and then go further. That's just part of what this insightful film does.

If you want to further your understanding of how we create our experience... this is a video for you. No mumble-jumbo here. Good questions and good answers from several sources to ponder. I think that this is a great way to learn a lot... very quickly.

Some of the biggest questions I have had in spiritual seeking like... what are emotions. Where does emotion even come from and what relationship does that even have to the spiritual aspirant. These are asked of multiple "masters". Here we are left to listen and ponder what these answers mean... and how they relate to our experience. What an opportunity this is to cover these topics. Different language yes. Different teachers yes. It paints a kind of holographic picture... complete in its many parts.
