Storyline

Boy meet girl tales like this have long been a go-to realm, but when executed with as much charm as Girl Shaped Love Drug they have the power to spread unexpected grins on faces. There are lots of grins to be had here, along with a little squirming when other characters episodically interrupt the slow-blooming romance. Sacha Dhawan is 'him', a dreamer with a metaphysical presence, similar to the angels of Wings of Desire. Occasionally, his spiritual ruminations threaten to break the realism, but the careful script has enough restraint to rein back, just in time. Rachel Austin is 'her', a Mancunian lass with a Mancunian heart, a beautiful off-set to this mysterious man. With a great soundtrack well used, patient camera work and cool editing, there is every reason to catch it Written by Screen 150

Just saw this at Cinequest- so great!
3 March 2013 | by See all my reviews

Wasn't sure what to expect but really enjoyed this movie. Great acting, and cinematography. Emotionally raw and visually stunning this moved me like no other movie at Cinequest. The soundtrack is great and compliments the visuals. This movie does not disappoint! Sasha Dhawan plays the lead perfectly, utterly charming, thoughtful and reserved. There are a few powerhouse performances by the actors in this movie. Shockingly powerful and in your face, this movie leaves you feeling alive and hopeful yet reminds us how fragile and damaged we all are. This movie draws you in and takes you on an emotional ride. Warning- it is addictive. Not for the faint of heart.
