Sex & Nudity

  • About 1 sexual scene per every 1-hour episode. Not too bad.
  • Occasional scenes of a sexual nature, but very little nudity. The sexual content in this show has a purpose and is done tastefully and to further the plot rather than just to arouse.
  • Season 1 episode 2
    • A young woman is discovered to be pregnant. There are references to her sex life.
    • Innuendo on whether someone is 'in bed' with someone.
  • Season 1 episode 3: moderate sex references and a scene of attempted rape.
    • A woman refers to a man "whoring" with women.
  • A man forces himself on a woman and tries to kiss her. She resists. He then bends her over a table and tries to rape her. Partial nudity shown.
    • It is mentioned, using colloquial language, that a woman has a sexually transmitted infection.
    • A man buys the use of a woman for sex and offers his partner to another man.
    • There are mild incidental references to a woman becoming pregnant from having sex with a man.
  • Season 1 episode 4- In one scene, a young man is shown washing himself in a small metal bath. He is naked. A young woman who he is talking to sits next to him reaches into the bath and starts to pleasure him with her hands. The scene cuts away quickly
  • Season 1 episode 5
    • A couple have sex on a bed. Both are naked.
  • Season 1 episode 6
    • Two young adults/teenagers are shown having sex in bed. The boy thrusts on top of the girl and breathes heavily. Nudity shown. They are interrupted by the boy's older brother who walks in on them having sex.
    • A man goes to a place that is implied to be a brothel and has a young woman sit on him while he lays on a bed. We later see him thrusting into the woman from behind partial nudity shown. Woman's buttocks and legs are seen.
    • Some sex references, including the use of the word 'whore'. A young man makes a comic reference to seeing his teenage brother having sex. A woman refers to men forgiving 'whoever their dicks point at'.

Violence & Gore

  • Almost every episode has some form of violence in it. There are frequent gun fights and brawls. The main gang has razors sealed in their caps, and uses them often in battle. Blood is clearly shown in almost every instance.
  • There are scenes with violence, some bloody. These are nearly all shootings.

Profanity

  • Season 4 contains a few utterances of the word "c**t".
  • Normally about 6 uses of fuck per episode
  • Whore damn and help are used quite frequently
  • Shit and bitch occasionally

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • There are many portrayals of drug use throughout the series.
  • The drama is set in 1919, smoking, drinking and drunkeness accurately portrayed in many settings.

Sex & Nudity

  • Mostly the violence is the worst thing in this show.
  • Season 1 episode 1: - As the inspector arrives we see men implied having sex with prostitutes on the side of the street.
    • A man and woman are seen in bed immediately after sex, nudity shown.
    • A man and two women enter a theatre and the man asks for a blowjob from both women but nothing happens.
    • A young man and a young woman have sex in a bed. She sits on top of him and moves up and down and they both breathe heavily and moan. Nudity shown.
