Did You Know?

The joke ending in the punchline "he's not an eggplant, he's retarded" is delivered by four different characters in four different episodes. This is the first time the punchline was used, this time by Red (Kate Mulgrew). The next is by Cesar Velazquez i(Berto Colon) n episode 1.5, Orange Is the New Black: The Chickening (2013), and the last being Nicky (Natasha Lyonne) in episode 1.13, Orange Is the New Black: Can't Fix Crazy (2013). The joke is not mentioned again for several seasons until episode 5.4, Orange Is the New Black: Litchfield's Got Talent (2017), by Josh (John Palladino). See more »

During a flashback scene with Red, a bus can briefly be seen promoting 2 Broke Girls. While it's not clear exactly when the scene takes place, it's certainly before 2011, when the sitcom first aired. See more »

User Reviews

Very entertaining first two episodes so far
3 July 2016 | by 851222See all my reviews

Greetings from Lithuania.

First two opening episodes of "Orange Is the New Black" were very entertaining. I loved the writing - it is funny, realistic and very involving. Characters are 3 dimensional, sharply written. Acting is top notch by all involved, especially by the lead Taylor Schilling and supporting stuff is also great.

Overall, so far i enjoyed "Orange Is the New Black" more then i thought i would. It is also superbly directed show first two episodes of which were superbly paced - at running time ~50 min. each they didn't drag and were entertaining from start till finish. Highly recommended.
