A father is seen playing with his little child on the lawn in front of the house, while his wife is seated sewing under a tree. A letter is brought to him which calls him away on a very important business trip. He takes a very affectionate leave of his wife and child and hurries away. During his absence the child is taken ill and a doctor is called in. When told that the child is in a very serious condition, the wife writes to her husband to come home, but he is detained. The child becomes worse, another doctor is called in consultation, and learning there is no hope for little Paul, the wife telegraphs to her husband to come immediately. He rushes home, but is too late; little Paul has just died. The shock is so great that he becomes insane and accuses the doctor of having killed his child, rushing at him in his insanity.
