  • A man is sitting on a horse with a rope around his neck: he seems to be in pain.

  • A woman throws a baby into an outhouse to get rid of it.

  • A woman hangs herself: the act itself is not shown but we see her body hanging from a tree.

  • Not a lot of swearing on the whole but several uses of the expressions 'son of a bitch'( used about 10 times) and 'goddamn' throughout the movie. The words 'shit' and 'bastards' can also be heard.
  • Most of the profanity comes from George Briggs.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Some people are seen drinking on a few occasions. Briggs mentions a whisky jar once and is seen drunk at the end of the movie. In one of the very last scenes he drinks alcohol from a bottle he keeps on his horse.
  • Whisky is also offered to him in a hotel but he declines the offer.
  • One instance of smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The subject matter is quite disturbing. The scenes in which the insane woman throws her baby in a toilet bowl is really shocking, although it is over fast.
  • Also, the self-inflicted wounds with the needle and the shot to the head of the man who wanted to strangle Briggs are graphic and somehow hard to watch.
