It's a shame that this comedy-drama about the bond shared between mothers and daughters seems to have come and gone unnoticed, given how effective the finished product is, not to mention the first-rate cast. There are a number of standout performances throughout, which is unsurprising given how much talent there is in front of the camera, and it's a pleasure to see so many terrific, A-list actresses from different generations coming together for an interwoven narrative. There are a few aspects that don't hold up upon further reflection, and some of the narrative threads are unfortunately side-lined and unresolved, but it's the kind of movie that sucks you in before you even know it. It's a pleasant, surprisingly layered indie that avoids the saccharine celluloid pablum that often defines movies about mothers and daughters, and while it rushes to wrap things up in the end and spoils its own momentum in the process, it's still worth a shot on a quiet Saturday afternoon.
