Spanish dystopian film about a small location whose inhabitants are really submitted by a group of fanatic dictators
1 December 2020 | by ma-cortesSee all my reviews

Strange and cold storytelling about an isolated , quiet village , it is Vulcania , a small isolated community governed by an enigmatic leader , Jose Sacristan , and other stiff authoriities : Gines García Millan , Ana Wagener . But a rebel worker : Miguel Fernández and an obstinate woman: Aura Garrido fight for their freedom , confronting the surprising truth that just outside its borders .

A mysterious and intriguing movie depicts the tale of a lonely place where nothing is quite what it seems. As a village where all folks woking at a factory and under the control of a few olders led by Jose Sacristan, Gines García Millan , Ana Wagener until a twist at the end . Director gets a good feel for the time period and toys with political ideas , control and manipulation, but at times , he buries then under illogical , supernatural and rather unpredictable tale . Focusing on dictatorship , self-preservation , conservatism, rebellion and freedom . Stars Miguel Fernández as the rebel labourer with extraodinary powers and Aura Garrido as the stubborn widow with only wish : to escape . And a frankly good support cast , such as: Gines García Millan , Ana Wagener , Rubén Ochandiano , Andrés Herrera and the incombustible José Sacristan .

It displays an evocative and atmospheric Music Score by Arnau Ballester . As well as colorful and brilliant cinematography by Emilio Guirao , shot on location in Tarega, Salas de Pallars , Xerallo, Buira , Lleida , Olot Gerona , Cal Ninyo , Sant Boi de Llobregat , Mataro , Barcelona. The motion picture was professional but slowly directed by José Skaf at his film debut . It had some nominations , as nominee Saudi Award best suppot actor Andrés Herrera and Nominee Spanish Actors Union : best performance in a minor role male José Sacristan.
