A not so great time
23 May 2019 | by jaythezoomsterSee all my reviews

"Blood Brother" is the next chapter in the utterly and continuously disappointing Season 8 of Supernatural.

I think the biggest issue with this episode is that it never feels like it amounts to anything. Sure, Sam learns that Dean is friends with Benny and we get some backstory on him but does anyone care very much? I enjoy Benny a good deal but despite it only being two episodes ago, it feels like ages since we've gotten anything on the plot to close the gates of Hell and THAT is the plot I care about.

Sam and Dean's bickering is also back in this episode and again, I feel like it's just trying to replicate the season 4 conflict but it fails to raise even a single emotion from me other than annoyance.

There's also Benny's old girlfriend who is turned into a vampire and the fact that Dean's somehow able to sneak around a vamp nest despite the fact that they can sense human hearts.

The only thing making this episode not a 5 is the Benny and Dean bromance which is honestly great.

"Blood Brother" fails to progress Season 8's main story line and alongside bringing nothing new or interesting to Sam and Dean's current conflict. Although, thanks to strong writing for Benny and Dean's friendship, I can forgive the blatant forgetfulness of lore and boring vampire girlfriend plot.
