Storyline

A noirish crime thriller, Galveston centers on New Orleans hitman Roy Cady, diagnosed with lung cancer at 40. Before the cancer can do him in, however, he has more pressing concerns in the form of his mobster boss, who has decided to remove him from the business - and the world - via a set-up. Turning the tables, he goes on the run having rescued teenage hooker Raquel "Rocky" Arceneaux. He's persuaded to pick up her baby sister Tiffany, and with his new wards in tow, heads to his titular hometown to scheme revenge and redemption. Written by Polly_Kat

Trivia

The song Elle Fanning sings as the car is stopped by the road after they leave the hotel and before they stop at Orange, is "Thirteen" by Big Star. See more »

Goofs

When Roy and Rocky approach a T-Junction the sign says that Galveston is 35 miles away and Beaumont is 39 miles away. In reality Galveston is over 100 miles away from Beaumont rendering the distances between the two places shown on the sign to be completely inaccurate. See more »

Terrific acting from Ben Foster.
17 December 2018 | by mannin11See all my reviews

Noir film, brilliantly acted by Ben Foster, who deserves to be a major star. Familiar premise of a hitman who rescues a teenage prostitute and goes on the lam with her and her young daughter. Somewhat overacted by Elle Fanning, who needed to rein in the histrionics - a mistake by the director.. The story holds up well, with twists and turns along the way. Unfortunately the ending lets the whole thing down. Illogical and rushed (as other reviewers have noted!) the story simply peters out instead of ending with a bang. A shame as there was enough good acting and originality to the story to have made it a good watch. Interesting to note that Wikipedia reports the write took his name of the credits when the director made changes he disagreed with. Would have been nice to have seen the original ending instead of the director's.
