In April 1985, nearly 1,000 animals (1 monkey, 21 cats, 9 opossums, 35 rabbits, 70 gerbils, 300 mice, and 460 rats) were rescued from the University of California, Riverside, USA. The documents and videotapes were removed. Approximately $700,000 in damage was caused. These videotapes were aired in the media to expose vivisection in its worst light. The video, called Britches, was made to document the happy ending of one baby monkey who was isolated in an iron cage after animal researchers crudely sewed up her eyes for a blind experiment. Grant Mack, former president of the American Council of the Blind, called the $275,000 experiment 'one of the most disgusting and sickly misguided nonsense I've ever heard of.—Hayduke
