"Lotgenoten" was made parallel to Paul Verhoeven's "Steekspel" in the Emmy Award winning Entertainment Experience. A user generated project in which some (semi) professional teams participated. The version helmed by Stephan Brenninkmeijer was first shown in parts on the web, but the film was picked up by BFD Distributors for a limited theatrical release and a V.O.D. release. See more »
I wouldn't call 'Lotgenoten' (= Dutch for 'companions who share the same fate') a great film. Therefore it shows too less real highlights. Or hardly any highlights, to put it properly.
What this very Dutch film offers you is a fluent story, that carry you on in a steady way. It doesn't bore you; on the other hand, it doesn't offer much excitement.
On its sleeve, right below the naked behind of one of its female leads, 'Lotgenoten' is advertised as a 'thriller'. A thriller? Well, sort of .... here we go again. The film offers you tense, making you curious how it'll proceed, but it never & nowhere gets spectacular.
Acting and shooting are quite in line, by the way. Not great, but good enough to entertain you throughout.
