I have written in the past about my absolute hatred of found footage movies. Hating found footage movies creates a dilemma for me when I am asked to review one, because as a critic it is a part of my job to remain impartial, but I am not impartial. To say I am not impartial however, is not the same thing as to say that I am prejudiced. Prejudice is based on an irrational feeling, and there are many very rational reasons that I hate found footage movies. For the sake of brevity, I will just focus on one of these reasons in this review: Nothing ever fucking happens in found footage movies.
Although Play Hooky is listed as being seventy minutes long, it is actually a sixty minute long film with a ten minute after-credits sequence thrown in to pad the running time. During...

Several notable indie titles are being released this Tuesday as well, including Play Hooky (the first title to come out under Pollygrind’s new distro label), To All a Good Night (directed by the late-great David Hess), Life After Beth and The Scribbler, the film adaptation of Daniel Schaffer’s wildly popular graphic novel.
Spotlight Titles:
The Purge: Anarchy (Universal Home Entertainment, Blu-ray/DVD/Digital HD & DVD)
The New Founders of America invite you to celebrate your annual right to Purge. The Purge: Anarchy, the sequel to summer 2013’s sleeper hit that opened to No.

Last year, James put together a comprehensive guide, of every piece of Halloween programming and horror movie that would air during the month of October. When I asked him if we were doing the same again this year, he acted like I was an idiot. Why wouldn’t we? With that knowledge in my head, I decided we would expand a little bit this year, and throw together a comprehensive DVD & Blu-ray buyer’s guide for the months of September and October. There are some really great horror releases between now and the end of October. Some studios wasted their opportunity to rope in the rabid genre fans. Fox, for example, except for a new Wrong Turn film, and a few catalog releases making their Blu-ray debuts(Exorcist sequels), has a calendar filled with nonsensical re-releases of titles that are already widely available, and at cheap prices.

Full specs will be announced shortly, but Wild Eye and PollyGrind are packing the Play Hooky DVD with bonus features, including exclusive content such as a commentary and liner notes from Freeman as well as short films hand-picked from the festival.
Below we have a look at the film's artwork, trailer, and more info on the new label.
Wild Eye CEO Rob Hauschild called PollyGrind "a brilliant, head-on collision of arthouse and grindhouse movies," and added, "Wild Eye is dedicated to giving independents like Play Hooky a position in the mainstream through traditional distribution, and PollyGrind is ground zero for discovering true independent talent."
