During a shootout, Topan crawls to his safe to retrieve a gun. He hurriedly dials in a combination, grabs the door's handle, and then pulls the safe open without first turning the handle.
That can only mean that the safe wasn't actually locked in the first place. Dialing in the right combination allows the handle to be rotated. It's only through turning the handle do the bolts move to lock or unlock the door. See more »
US release was cut "by frames" (as stated by director Gareth Evans) to avoid an NC-17 rating by the MPAA. The cuts only total around 5 seconds. They include a medium shot of Lieutenant Wahyu being shot, a brief additional shot of Uco cutting the throat of one of the bound men, Prakoso stabbing one of his attackers at the nightclub three times in the neck with a broken bottle, shot extensions when Hammer Girl attacks the bodyguards on the subway, and a longer shot of Rama killing the assassin in the kitchen. The action might take up a little less screen time percentage wise, but is more brutal (way more), even better choreographed, varied and memorable. I think this movie has the greatest overall collection of fight scenes in the history of action cinema, and a fantastic car chase too. Obviously I haven't seen every movie in existence, but I have never seen anything with such a collection of incredibly well done and brutal fights.
Characters have depth to them, even if on a comic book level, and are well cast and well played. Story is fairly intelligent, and more than services the action.
Everything else; filming, editing, sound design, stunts, special effects are stellar. There are quite a few "how the hell did they do that?!?" moments.
