The completed diary set of her father inspires 'Emily' a long series of flashbacks to how it all started for most main characters, just like when Nolan made her read them after Amanda Clark's juvenile release. It includes the early Grayson intrigues, also with Frank, Linda and Mason, the eliminated of Roger Halsted, who could have saved David Clark, and the porters boys' youth while father Carl lived and sold out to Nolan's company to hide their mother's shameless disinterest. This episode differs from what has gone before as, almost in its entirety, it delves into the back story of the main characters. No voice-over by Emily this time. It returns to the present only in the last scene. As such, the youngsters, Christa B. Allen, as Charlotte, Connor Paulo (as Declan) and Ashley Madekwe (as Ashley) had some time off, and that cut into the interest for me, because Charlotte's my favorite. Former supermodel Amber Valetta's back, these are back-flashes after all, we see the start of the affair Conrad has with Lydia. For the most part, this episode is about the New Year's Eve party held by the Graysons on 31 December 2002, and it is a gathering of all of Emily's targets while they were still at the zenith of their transgressions. Evil henchman Frank is there too, taking care of a perceived weak link.
Essential to the story, okay, but I sure missed Christa.
